Sapphire HD4870x2 Problem

if not direct --> flikker screen --> black screen --> pc restarts

Following errors

after reinstalling the ati drivers 50 times and then launching gta boots untill the game and then

and all other games usuallly freeze and pc just restarts

when i run all games below in windowed mode there is absolute no crash @ all

only thing i notice then is that the card's second gpu is using 2-4% resources

and first 100% and the card's clock speed stays 507/500 while it is 750/900

i am about 2 give the card back and step over 2 Nvidia but i wanne give it another shot
and posting this around in forums hoping i find a sollution for my problem somewhere

Games i tested

Test drive unlimited --> doesnt even start @ all
Left 4 dead --> freezes when joining a server
Counter strike source --> freezes when spawning
Half life deathmatch --> when connected 2 server
Grand theft auto 4 --> after i load a save game
Farcry 2 --> when game starts
Need for speed undercover --> @ ea logo

i hope this problem is gonna be fixed soon

or ati is doing it wrong or i am doing it wrong

i see alot of problems on internet about this HD4870x2 Fullscreen problem freeze restart thingy

Heres a list off possibilities:

1. Not enough power. What PSU are you using?

2. Over heating. What temps is this card running at? (idle & load)

3. The card is fubar from the manufacturer. RMA time!

4870 x2 basically is just two 4870's in "crossfire" all squished into one pcb.
It is already known that when one runs games in windowed mode, the crossfire in 4870 x2 doesnt take effect and the games run only on single core.
The fact that the games run fine in windowed mode and not in full screen (where the crossfire is supposed to take effect) means there is a problem with the crossfire configuration of ur card. What Im guessing is that in full screen mode the card does not evenly distribute the work but shifts everything to one core, making it overheat and giving you bsod's and freezes.

What I recommend trying out for stability testing is to underclock ur cpu back to stock, plug out one of the two rams, reinstall driver, try to turn the 4870 X2 fan speeds up at least 50%. If you still get freezes there is definately a problem with ur card and you should return it.

my psu = 600watt i am getting 1000watt today

i did all off above

card temp is 40 @ idle and about 80 on load

i reinstalled 8.10 8.11 8.12

i already rma'd the card once and they said it was fine



i olso underclocked and switch to 1 memory stick and tried it in all slots olso i tried the other stick in all slots



got 1000watt psu today installed it

the BSOD is often due to card temps - I get them all the time when I forget to turn my fans up while gaming

graphical errors are also heat or driver related - I get messed up graphics in badly designed games like Blacksite but also in crysis and farcry2 when I use AA or AF to the max - though since re-install everything runs gravy.

olso when i put my fan up 100% and gpu's both are 34celcius still get the bsod

i think card is faulty and i returned it 2 the store

i am waiting what they say
