Depends.. to overclock, I suggest using a set of hacked drivers (Omega Drivers, techPowerUp Softmod Drivers, DNA Drivers, etc..) because 9550's clock is locked in the BIOS.. alternatively, you can flash it with a 9600 BIOS since it's pretty much the same.. Then use tools like ATITool, RadLinker, Rade3D Tweak to overclock your card..

And on the side of how much overclocking can be done to your card, it depends, what cooler you have on your card, (fan+heatsink or heatsink only..) and what type of memory chips you have.. (the manufacturer and the speed of the chips in nanoseconds).. listing out the specs of your card will help us a lot in deciding how much overclockablility of your card..

NOTE: Overclocking will probably voids the warranty of your card.. DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!.. :)

Sorry to say, but SAPPHIRE 9550 is a crap. The one i used was a 256MB with Mezza 5ns which can't even overclock to 230MHz from 200MHz & the highest core overclock by ATI Tool is 275MHz from stock 250MHz. My one has a blue LED in the fan. Your one is the same, isn't it?

Mine? Yeah.. 3 blue LED under the dinky fan to be exact.. but I'm not using Mezza (never heard of it) RAMs.. Mine is Samsung's 5ns RAMs that can clock to 230MHz without any cooling! The core also can be clocked to a speed of 440MHz (can even go beyond this but I underclocked it for stability reasons) with the dinky little fan.. I don't mean to offend but maybe you just got the wrong card (most probably you've got yourself a 64-bit card, which will definately loose out at overclocking and in terms of gaming performance), but some of the users are just happy with their card.. You can call this card a crap if you want to.. since you got yourself some big fat Radeon X800.. so don't complain here because not everyone have that kind of money to get the latest and the most powerful card on the market..

What I got is a SAPPHIRE 9550 256MB (250,400) with Mezza 5ns ram. It is a 128-bit card. The dealer of sapphire is known to me, thats why i can get my hands to 3 of these cards.......and all gave me the same result......give or take 5 mhz.

Same problem with sapphire.

Mine is also a Sapphire Radeon 9550 256Mb (250/200), and i cannot overclock memory beyond 220 mhz. The CPU can go up to 300-350, but with a bottleneck like that in the memory...

Just because the ram wont OC doesnt mean its crap, its just at the end of its speed spectrum.

The behavior of an overclocked component, is the behavior of a stressed component, it is, if the memory cant work in a fair clock margin is more probably that memory fails at higher temperatures or during a long hard workload. And a component that is no fiable, is a crappy component. I thought.

Not sure what your trying to say... But if a component will run stably at its factory set values, then it might not be a good OC'r but it gets the job done.

The overclock-ability of a component also depends on the quality of it.. if it is built with better material and no errors dring the process of manufacturing, then the component might have a higher chance of overclocking than others..
