Sapphire RX 580 Nitro + 8GB UEFI problems

Hello guys,

i just got an used Sapphire RX 580 Nitro + 8GB with dual Bios. I got the card with the Bios-Switch in position 2 (silent; towards ports).
Everything worked fine, but GPU-Z is showing different GPU / Mem Clock (1120MHz / 1925MHz) then i was expecting (1340Mhz/2000MHz) for the silent mode. I also noticed that the Bios has no UEFI Support.
So i turned the PC off, flipped the switch to pos 1 (gaming; default; towards power connector) and got a black screen, also no bios and Post messages.

I started searching around and found out that maybe the Bios were flashed before. So i flashed the this bios as following: Booted to Windows with the bios switch in pos 2 -> flipped the switch to position 1 -> flashed the bios with the amdvbflash provided by Techpowerup -> finished successful -> restart the PC
But i still got no image with the switch in pos 1.

Next try was to set the switch back to pos 2 and boot into the UEFI. There i switched the PCI ROM priority to legacy instead of EFI compatible.
Then flipped the switch back to pos 1 and restarted. Post messages came up and Windows started. I opened GPU-Z to see what clocks are shown.
GPU-Z shows the right default GPU/ MEM clock (1411MHz / 2000MHz) but the actual clocks stayed at 0.

I tried reinstalling the Driver, using DDU and boot again in EFI compatible mode. Still no output.
I also tried flashing other bios versions provided here (only versions with autodetect mem) but nothing changed. I still couldn't start the PC with the switch in pos 1 and PCI ROM priority set to EFI compatible.

Maybe the Motherboard has problems with the Uefi bios of the graphics card?
While checking if the latest bios for the motherboard is the newest, i realized that there is a beta version (L2.31A) which says "Graphics supports UEFI GOP". Maybe i should try flashing this?

It would be great if someone has any idea or advise.
Thanks a lot!

AS Rock Z68 Pro3 Gen3 (with newest stable BIOS version installed 2.30)

Has nobody a hint? Did I installed the right vBios?

I tried to installing the Beta Bios for the motherboard, didn't work.
It seems that the motherboard Bios crashes while loading the GPU's efi?! Because in legacy mode it works ..

Oh, i didn't know that..
The Patcher found some limitations and patched it. The Card is still not working with efi and switch in pos 1. Maybe I need to install the vBios again?..

Thanks @RadFX , I will try it there ..

I'm currently not at home, but I'm pretty sure that there is no such option because I was looking for it as well...

So i finally managed to fix it. I contacted the Sapphire-Support. They send me the right Bios files for the card. i Flashed them. Still not booting in Game-Mode (Pos 1.)

After some looking around in the BIOS, i found the AS-Rock Boot Failure Guard. Disabled it and everything works like a charm.
Don't know why this was "crashing" the bootup... But anyway it works.

Thank that might be useful some day I still got a user or two with a old AsRock Z67 board if I remember correctly.

It's not uncommon with older boards with UEFI to have some problemers and think about it the latest stable bios is like 9 years old and the newest beta bios is like 8 years old but have graphics supports UEFI GOP.

[Beta]L2.31A

Windows 8 Ready.

Note: "Ultra Fast" is only supported by below conditions.
1. OS Windows 8 is installed on GPT format.
2. Graphics supports UEFI GOP

Link: https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z68 Pro3 Gen3/index.asp#BIOS

I am not sure what UEFI GOP is other then back in the day some people say it was the future so maybe it can fix your issue with your RX 580.

I have seen this Beta. But as you wrote, the UEFI GUI Support is a Condition for this "Ultra Fast" thing. So I think it won't affect the general UEFI GUI Support.
But anyway, it works with Boot Failure Guard disabled... Might be helpful for others.

Cheers!

AsRock specific points out "Graphics supports UEFI GOP" that was why I wanted to write so they did some UEFI support so not sure if it's still the "Boot Failure Guard" in this version.

Just cool to hear you got it working :rockout:
