BIOS on it's way..

Send you Sapphire Vapor-X BIOS from my card.....

I've already got a ticket open with Sapphire. They are hung up on the whole shader vs stream processor idea..... can't seem to acknowledge there is any issue...tickets been open over a week.

confirmed. when i flashed the bios you guys have onto my card i'm getting 720 shaders too.
this means that flashing the bios i linked above should give you your 800 shaders.

if you feel confident that you can manage the bios flash (and manage to flash it back if you mess up) then do so. there is no way to prove you did flash the card if you flash it back to the old bios in case of an rma. i'm 95% sure that you will get your 800 shaders by flashing the bios.

otherwise send sapphire to this thread and ask for what you should do.

afaik ati winflash doesnt work for these new cards ... gotta use atiflash for dos (http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1650/ATIFlash_3.75.html).

if you have multiple ati cards in your system PLEASE remove all but the one you want to flash. easy to accidentally flash the wrong card, and always make a backup of your bios. gonna go sleep now, good luck with your cards

If you just bought the card, the easiest way to deal with this problem would be to contact

where you got it from, and return the card.

If you flash the bios, there is a chance that you may void the warranty on your card. I'm not saying that this will happen, I'm just saying there's a chance.

The chips for the 5750 and the 5770 look exactly the same, so most likely someone put the wrong chips in the machine at the manufaturers.

The difference between the two chips is that one was created perfectly, while the other has some core disabled, but will still operate. The same as the 5850 and 5870.

In this case, it is not the wrong chip. It is a 5770 (it has the correct Device ID), but the BIOS has an incorrect bit mask, which disabled one of the SIMD units. This has happened before, as W1zzard said before.

Hi from Greece.

in 23 DEC 2009 /20:33 i bought a Sapphire Vapor-X 5770 overclocked edition as a present to my self.

guess what? Only 720 shaders!!!

i have the same bios (VER012.014.000.004.000000) as user REDMODRED.

and the sticker on my card is the same as w1zzards post.

i did not send any email in sapphire afraid i will get the same silly answer as redmonred.

i will bechmark my gfx card before and after(with the bios that w1zzard posted) the bios update.

i hope i don't damage the gfx card.

i will post feedback whatever happens.

i believe that More users will have the same problem.

thank you.

BIOS update simpler way???

I'm on Windows 7 Pro (released version..) I can't recall when I last had a machine with a Floppy drive on it. So, using a DOS based app to re-flash the BIOS would be difficult.

If this is "just a bit mask" issue, is there an "editor" that would allow be to "hack" the ROM location from a Windows OS or Command Prompt????

you'd best get a Floppy drive, besides they are cheap. Never flash using USB.

Yup, NewEgg...

Yeah, I did buy from NewEgg. (I've updated the "reviews" on their site with info from this thread too....) I've even given NewEgg credit in advance as I know "they will do the right thing..."

Just wonder how to "re-buy" a proper Sapphire Vapor-X 5770. Hey, this card IS Dead Silent a very strong requirement for me....

I haven't flashed ATI cards in DOS, but on the NVIDIA ones I have flashed it is nvflash "ROMNAME.ROM", romname being the filename of the ROM you are flashing. Should be the same for atiflash I assume.

So, I guess it should possibly look like:

A:\atiflash example.rom

and then it probably asks you to confirm the flash after that.

those are a few tools to make a bootable disk, whether CD, Floppy, or USB Pen/thumb drive.

basically you use that, put your favorite flash utility on the drive, with the bios files, id even recommend learning some DOS while your at it as its the lowest level you can get.

PS ensure to backup the original bios before any flashing occurs so you can recover, and follow all bios flashing directions to the bone marrow.

Here is a guide for flashing

Here is the other but its old as hell

ok this is as far as I can go with assisting you, as i havent flashed a video card since the MR9800 in my laptop (failed- never use a desktop bios for a mobility part)

If you need assistance ask, Kei, Binge, Wile E, cdawall, Chicken Patty, Erocker or Even Wizzard

probably "atiflash <filename>.rom", <filename> being the name of your BIOS file, so an example:

atiflash AWESOME.rom

Again, I haven't flashed ATI bioses before, but I imagine it is the same syntax as NVIDIA flashing.

Actually it is:
atiflash <command> <device #> <filename>
eg. atiflash -p 0 x.rom

if you are going to force flash a card:
eg. atiflash -p -f 0 x.rom
