I was looking to rebuild a PC for cheap, so I got an X1650 off of Newegg for $60. Core overclocks great, making it from the standard 500 all the way up to a mind-bending 700. However, the memory, which has a standard clock of about 400MHz, is detected by ATI Tool as just below 800, then when I try to alter the memory speeds at all, the screen goes black, and If I'm lucky, in 15 seconds a window will pop-up saying the card stopped responding and was reset. What do I do from here?

if ati tool reads 800 and real is 400, (check ur gfx specs, and check everest or things like that), try putting 450, u can mix it w everest, if everest said 400 b4 overclock, and 450 after, it shud be nice, if it says 400 b4 and sumthing like... 225 after, better dont oc mem or dont use atitool 4 it, and maybe it wont be pwned, pr wait new versions, or use another programme, or dont oc memory, -_-

anyways 400x2=800, maybe atitools read the real memory after "ddr multiplier xd" but dunno,

Try driver level overclocking. If your memory reads as 400, it's actually 800mHz since it is GDDR memory (DDR= double data rate). I'm not sure for any other versions but for ATI Tool 0.27, click settings, then go down to x1000 overclocking, then check the "Use driver level overclocking" option.

Just tried ATI Tool .27b, and the Driver Level Overclocking option worked. Thanks!
