SAS 6G vs SATA 6G

SAS just operates over the SATA interface, SAS drives tend to be higher performance but the interface should perform the same. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I would think you could mix SATA and SAS drives on the same backplane you just wouldn't be able to use them in same array but ultimately it probably depends on the card.

Performance will come down to the drive itself more than the interface.

You should be able to mix SATA and SAS drives in the same backplane, but it isn't a guarantee. Some backplanes won't allow it most do.
