Seagate
ST2000LM003 HN-M201RAD 2TB

I have the above taken from an HP Pavilion laptop (replaced with an SSD). The drive works fine in the laptop, works fine connected via USB 3 and when installed into a different laptop.

I cannot however get the drive to be recognised by my ASUS ROG B450 - F (latest 4007 bios)

no new firmware available according to seagate against the s/n pf S34LJ9AG503294

There does seem to be 9 other other firmwares available however when checked against HDD (though no links to download)

Any thoughts on how I might get this HDD working on my B450-F?

regards,

Rob

Yes, using dual M.2 970 works very well indeed! not using SATA ports 5/6. I have a small 3.5" HDD working fine with the mobo (even if I use the same SATA port the 2TB isn't picked up)

Did you check in disk manager? Maybe any of your current disks use the same volume name?

doesn't appear in disk manager. Spins up just fine, just not detected by the mobo (ie doesn't even appear in the bios)

Just for clarity as I am stumped too. I have 4x drives in the PC.

2x NVME 500GB M.2 970 Evos ( OS and games/ video editing scratch)
1x SATA SSD 850 Evo (120GB - filehistory)
1x SATA HDD (WD 500 GB - archive)

These all work absolutely fine.

When I swap the WD HDD for the 2TB drive ( same cables, same port, same power), the 2 TB drive spins up but is not seen in the BIOS (nor windows disk manager).

The 2TB drive works over USB 3.0 no problems and when connected to another laptop.

Basically all I am trying to do is swap out the 500GB for the 2TB!

Is the drive formatted?
Are you using CSM or UEFI on the Motherboard.
The only thing I can think of is that it is the wrong format for your system.

yes, NTFS. Doesn't even show in the bios/ disk management. The only thing I can think of is that a flash to other/ latest Seagate firmware may help but cannot find a way to do this. Not a major problem per se but i do hate to have 2TB sat being largely unused!

What about CSM or UEFI on the mobo as @Caring1 asked? Also is the format state of your HDD in MBR (Master Boot Record) or GPT (GUID Partition Table)?
I don't think flashing will help make it recognizable, if anything, flashing with other firmware could brink your HDD.

CSM enabled. The 2TB isn't detected by the BIOS even when attached to the same port as the the much older WDC HDD which is seen and works fine.

My plan would be just to secure erase the 2TB, then use disk management to format etc (just a data drive).

No worries, I think I'll just keep it for USB use ( or when upgrading the MB in due course it may then work)

My conclusion right now is general incompatibility with mobo.

Yeah, at this point, just use it as an external drive instead since that works. That is what I'm doing with all my spare HDD connected to my laptops.
