Hello,
The cpu/motherboard is brand new,
i5 12400
gigabyte b660m
asus gtx970
psu coolermaster 650v

I have this issue now , when I power on my pc, I can see the screen (range from few seconds to few minutes) before it goes black.
Sometimes it goes black only after a few seconds into bios, or few minutes where I can successfully boot into windows and allow to open rdp.
Now , I am able to rdp to windows> tried to install nvidia driver> not found compatible hardware etc.
device manager > graphic card is detected as unknown device, manually install it using windows provided drivers, it shows up as a yellow triangle in the device manager.
After a few reboot, able to install nvidia driver(could be it was detected at that moment) > reboot. problem persist.

Conclusion: gpu became not detected after awhile.

From google search, I have seen people try to fix this by flashing GPU driver. However, the card is not even detected by my PC, hence cant flash.
Cant detect the gpu > i cant know the temperature.

Have anyone seen this behaviour? any fix? I dont think it is overheating issue , i just reapply thermal, fan is clean etc. also,
I think it has nothing to do with all those drivers because it happen even in bios.

Did you try the GPU on another PC, did you try another display cable(HDMI/DP) and/or display/TV ?

run mods mats, also check the gpu die for any noticeable damage. Did you get it from someone else or you bought it brand new (back in the day)? Also what psu model is that to be exact? (coolermaster but which one).

That gpu is dead, replace it.

The gtx 970 was dishonestly sold to people, get a RX 6600.

Never seen someone flashing a GPU driver. :D The only thing you can flash is the GPU Bios, which you shouldn't, especially if the PC isn't stable.

So the card was working fine in your old rig & started having problems in your new one or after you took it apart to put new paste on it?

Did you run mods mats on your 970? Just google how to do that. It runs within dos environment so its got closer access to hardware. It can even run on gpus that dont display image, it just runs itself in automated mode and it saves the results to a txt file. Make sure to run that, to see if there is physically any issue with the gpu or vram, and not vrm. To see if the card is worth repairing. (Its still better than a 6400 XT, so depending on your situation it could be worth a shot).

Or, it can be the thermal paste was not applied properly? He did not say whether troubles started after the reapply or the reapply was an attempt to fix the problem.

Either way, the 12400 has an IGP, that should still be serviceable.

Or he cracked the Die by retightening the screws for the heatsink the wrong way.
