Hello all. I am stuck. We have a user at my place of work who we upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. After the upgrade she noticed that now if she is inactive for 5 minutes her screens will go to sleep. The problem with this is that when the screens sleep, the computer is locked. This forces her to log back in every time. Not MAJOR but rather annoying to say the least.

We have a group policy that says after 15 minutes of activity the screens should go to sleep. For everyone else including myself, this works. Most others as well as myself are also running Windows 10. We have checked to make sure she is getting the group policies and she most definitely is.

Other things I have tried:

Restoring defaults to the power options
Checked the timeout settings in the registry, they were set at 900 seconds. (15 minutes)

Not sure what else to try. I am sure I am missing a couple of things I have tried.

Perhaps the Monitor itself has a power saving sleep setting.

True, I did not mention that. However, I did already double check there. :(

Perhaps the Monitor itself has a power saving sleep setting.

But would upgrading windows have an affect on that?

I'm not sure, W10 may have different power levels that set off sleep state and how it handles it.
Are all the systems the same, Motherboard, CPU etc?

There are a few different groups of systems. Overall I would say we have 5 different systems. I am pretty sure that hers fits in with one of those.

Does she run a screen saver?
If she does, check the wait time and see if the "On Resume, Display Log-in Screen" is check or not.

The policy is set to a "Blank" screensaver. That setting is still set to either 15 or 30 minutes.

I also just checked the event logs and found nothing odd in there.

Is she possibly running some dual monitor utility software? I know the full version of DisplayFusion takes over power management of the displays from Windows. I use it at home myself, and the default is to sleep the monitor after about 5 minutes of inactivity.

Just a thought.

Benchmark Scores I dont have time for that.
Are you sure the relevant GPOs are in "Authenticated Users"? There was an update that MS pushed that affected some GPOs for some orginizations were it took away read permissions for the GPO if the system in question was not aprt of the authenticated users security group. IIRC.

This didnt affect me thankfully but I have seen many who have been. I did have a PS script that could be run on the DC to check which ones were affected with the problem but I didnt save it.

Well I think I figured it out. The group policy has the screensaver set to blank. We changed it to "None". After doing that I was able to change it back to blank. When I changed it back the time was set to 5 minutes. Changed this to 15 minutes and as far as I know, all is good.

No idea why group policy couldn't make the change. It's like it was cemented in and just wouldn't change for anything. Especially weird since no one else was affected.

EDIT: Still not fixed. :( still sleeping after 5 minutes.
