I set it to shut off after 10 minutes. Windows, however keeps changing it to 20 minutes. Anyone else have this problem? How the hell do I fix it?

Maybe click "apply" before "ok" ...

no, just set to monitor off after some time.. but I miss the days of running techdemo's as screen savers, like Nvidia Geoforms or ATi sea/toyshop etc.

Yeah, I'm sorry tbh...

No clue what's happenning there. Maybe going through editing in the advanced settings dialog might change it correctly for you? Possibly change it via the registry? Is your screensaver time set to 20 minutes? Is it disabled?

I've done it through the advanced window many many times. Where in the registry? screensaver set to none.

Should be in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg but now IIRC I don't think you can edit the actual profile in the registry. Pretty sure now that I think about it, so my previous post regarding registry is null, unless someone else definitely knows for certain.

No screensaver, just set the monitor to power down after 10 minutes though. I do miss the days of badass 3-D screensavers sometimes though.

no SS for me. I tell my monitor to shut off after 10min. SS interfear with some programs on my PC so i just have my monitor shut off. just makes more sense imo.

I use TPUCapture to save a portion of my screen when I want to keep it for later.

I save my LCD from other issues like dust, heat, and scratches. There's no poll for that ER.

Dissapointed cat is disappointed.

I use a screen saver its just the time but stupidly it comes on after 30mins idle but the monitor turns off after 45mins idle so 15mins of a clock is daft i should change it.

My system locks after 8 minutes then the monitors turns off after 15 minutes. Don't really understand the point of screen savers these days, the only "screen savers" I've actually used are tied into media programs.

Forgot to mention that when I used screensavers (Had a CRT), I used to have one that would generate fake BSODs. It was actually pretty cool, since everybody thought my PC was constantly inoperable.

On Windows XP, the screensaver was running even when the montior was off which is a waste. Ever since I discovered that, I simply turn screensavers off and have the monitor power down in 5 minutes or less.

IMHO the best screensaver is to have your monitor sleep when idle.
Lowest power usage, lowest cpu usage, lowest everything and longest lifespan.

screensavers are a leftover from back when

A: screens burned images in

B: the technology to have the screen power off didnt exist

C: screens took ages to power on

it is a complete waste of energy (on the monitor, CPU and video card if its 3D) to use a screensaver in this day and age - just set the screen to turn off after 5-15 minutes. (and NO, that wont feck with games or movies - fullscreen apps tend to stop screens powering down)
