I just got this drive a couple weeks ago and I must say, it's "thinking" sound is driving me crazy !! It doesn't sound like it's broken, and software shows its in great condition, so I suspect this is just the way this drive sounds....

Can anybody confirm that this is a loud and annoying drive ? I can ask for replacement, just checking that the new one won't sound the same...

I just replaced my 4 old drives with 2 of these....what sound is it making?

Which version of the drive as well....7200.10/7200.11 or the newest revision 7200.12?

So far....my 2-500's are not making much noise at all.....but I've got 7 fans running in there so they could be masking the noise.

Check the drives acoustic mode as well......set to silent you may loose a little performance but the noise level should be less.

Hope it helps. :)

Hmm OK, do I need to install a driver for that acoustic option ? or is it a Windows option ?
I believe the drive is 7200.11 series, made in china.
It makes a grind noise, like any other stressed HD, but this one is a bit louder...
Thanks raptor !

On the seagate site you can DL for free the HD tools which have an option to set your accoustic levels for your drives.....Either the Seagate tools or the max blast app I believe.

Hope it helps. :)

Just pretend you have a Geiger Counter in your pc case, I did when I have my 7200.10s, the 11s are a little quiter but still noisy.
