So.... about the seagate Firecuda giveaway, thread here: Let me start by clarifying this post is in no way meant as a slur on the winner BTW, congrats @skajohyros :toast: . And the giveaway which received a huge amount of interest here on TPU and garnered some 360+ replies but to quote the rep @seagate_surfer
The giveaway will run from July 28, 2020 to August 11, 2020 and the winner will be selected by the answer they give and voted on by a panel.
and again no bad will intended on the winner, but out of 300+ entries it took a whole "panel" to judge and deem the winning entry "I need the Seagate FireCuda 120 SSD 1TB because my son's 2500k system needs a bit of a boost. " again this isn't anything on the actual winner nor sour grapes on my part for not winning as I think there were a whole lot of entries more witty and deserving than mine, and also the winners entry, of which there was many very similar responses, so again nothing on the winner, did a panel actually go through 300 entries and deem this to be the best? or was it just a case of pick a number out of a hat? Also a lot of new members registered on the 28/29 July specifically for this giveaway most of whom will never return again, said winner included more than likely. My reply was pretty bland, I couldn't think at the time so wasn't expecting to win, though was looking forward to the amazing entrant that beat 300 others with such a great response as to beat 300+ other contestants and was left kinda MEH

As for the actual reasons and scope of the giveaway. Meh, no real cure really. Do you expect people to be honest? I can write up some ultra sappy story NP and it wouldnt be true.

EDIT:: What im saying is, if you sway the requirements to require a need, then I am sure the types of responses would change, and there would be no way to verify them.

I was just picturing this huge panel of Seagate reps around a table debating over the 300 entries for days on end like a panel of jurors out for a verdict

Haha! The thought did cross my mind. I was expecting a champagne reception, canapes, and a night at the casino with $20'000 to spend surrounded by beautiful android women. My hopes and dreams were shattered in seconds :(

Yeah wow, I'd never seen so many first time posters, although some may have been long time lurkers on the forum.
Put a minimum post limit in place to qualify please.

Hold on! We can't blame newbies for wanting the same drive that we wanted. (and trying to win it)
Maybe Seagate will decide to grace us with more Seagate branded bling!
Let there be a more positive attitude going forward, and again, congrats to our winner!

This reminds me of a discord group that had an extra 200 people join for a $25 game card giveaway. All but a few either went inactive or left after the giveaway ended.

anyone know why that seagate SSD is so much more expensive than others of the same size & series?

compared them & aside from a few minor differences between the seagate & a 4 years old 860 evo, there isnt much difference. the Cude seems to use up to twice the power, or its rated for it. :wtf:

So people are liars because you cannot verify it? I posted something about the responses in the thread, and I read all of them up to the date I posted. Like they were all cookie cutter responses. There was a couple with some effort though. My post got edited by a mod. For not violating any rule. Anyway, I was just hoping for a little more thought put into the responses. Just my two cents

Because it uses expensive chips that are one of the best if not the best: Intel 3D TLC flash and Phison controller.
The test results speak for themselves and being a new drive maybe it can be improved with better firmware.

Price will come down sooner or later after every new release.
The 970s are more than 2 years old and are at the best price vs quality. When the replacements arrive (980?) the price will probably be higher than the 970s and Firecuda 120s.

And form factor/interface doesn't really influence the price of SSDs even if there are performance differences, it all depends on BOM and economies of scale. Remember SATA vs PATA?
