FTR - JonnyGURU did not "go under". Those working there either retired or moved on in their careers, like going to work for Corsair.

Yup but the website and forums and everything are toast... that wouldn't be too great if not for archival services

But to "go under" suggests the organization failed to survive and went out of business, typically due to lack of sufficient revenue/income to "stay afloat". That's not what happened and thus was my point.

But I certainly agree with you that it would have been nice for all the reviews to have been saved and hosted somewhere. But that too costs money and with none coming in any longer, that would be a problem. But as I said, with him working for Corsair now, there became a need to avoid even the appearance of bias in the reviews (when good) and certainly Corsair would not want one of their employees posting bad reviews for some of their products (even if from the past). So it had to come down and go away. And from a business standpoint, I fully understand and agree with the decision.

There remains only a couple thorough review sites and that is sad. I like to see several professional opinions that are based on actual, unbiased testing (and not just re-phrasing/copying of the marketing hype) before I buy.

As far as your complaint about Seasonic, I don't feel it is justified. Nothing says a company cannot put out entry-level products too. There is nothing to suggest they have changed directions at all. Just, perhaps, added another vector. This is a non-modular (which many still prefer, BTW) Bronze PSU. Nothing suggests it is inferior to other brand non-modular Bronze PSUs.

The thing is, coil whine is pretty common to the entire category of "budget" PSUs. :( You can't expect top-tier performance from a bottom or near bottom tier product. I am not suggesting buying a top-tier PSU as I don't believe that is necessary, or cost effective. But I do recommend avoiding budget, entry-level models, regardless the brand. Supplying good, clean, stable power is just too important to "every" other aspect of stable performance from all the hardware being supplied.

Software Argh, Windows 10. I hated Windows 7. I hate Windows 10 more. Give me back XP!!!
I stopped buying and recommending Seasonic a while ago.

They have turned to garbage.

They put out units that have the loudest coil whine I've heard WHILE THE COMPUTER WAS TURNED OFF!!!

They sell nothing but garbage now.

If a business goes out of business it went under.

It doesn't matter why.

Management failure to keep employees is a reason for a business to go under.

But you're just trying to derail the topic away from Seasonic being garbage now.

Sorry but you really have no clue here. Of course it matters why. This is simple Business 101.

I owned my own successful IT consulting business for many years - this after 24 years as a radio technician and then network manager for the US Air Force, and another10 years as an engineer supporting 400 developers and secure DoD/State Department networks for a major software company. I decided it was time for me to retire and enjoy the fruits of my 45+ years of labor before I die of old age. I paid my employees a very nice "golden parachute" as part of their severance package AND I even helped place them with a new company. They were happy and we are all still friends. I didn't "fail" to keep them.

My business didn't "go under". In fact, it was still highly profitable. In fact, I sold the business and remaining consulting contracts to one of my competitors for a very tidy profit. So there was nothing "going under" about it. Do you not understand that going under suggests "drowning in debt"?
But you're just trying to derail the topic away from Seasonic being garbage now.
LOL Yeah right.

Note that more than 1/2 of your last post was all about trolling me and derailing this topic. Talk about the kettle calling the pot black!

They put out units that have the loudest coil whine I've heard WHILE THE COMPUTER WAS TURNED OFF!!!
Yeah, I have heard this too. But of course, everyone with just a little knowledge here knows that a computer turned off is not really "off" (as in no current draw at all) but just in standby - with the ATX standard "required" +5Vsb standby voltage being distributed to multiple ports and and points across the motherboard.

Reply if you must. I will not waste my time.

Lol you guys feel the same about Seasonic as I do about Corsair.

I bought my first Seasonic PSU last November and it’s been solid for me. No complaints at all. My decision was based off of forum member recommendations. It’s a tight unit.

So, what do you recommend as an alternative, non-garbage PSU seller? Corsair? EVGA?

Oh, I'm sure the 3 x S12II units, the G-550W, Focus Plat 550W, Focus Gold 550W, and the SFX-L 650W I've had over the years must all be cherry-picked unicorns then for not having coil whine

Welcome to the world of electronics. If it has inductors, you will find someone complaining of coil whine if you look hard enough

Guess that's to a small extent the aftermath of venues like JonnyGURU going under.
https://ru.gecid.com/power/seasonic_b12_bc-550/ Russian only for the time-being.

Cross-referencing this here https://linustechtips.com/topic/111...-list/page/177/?tab=comments#comment-14654031 the OEM is Helly (behind 1st Player units) apparently. Warm greetz (салют :toast:) to Juular if he sees this.

I'm at a loss of words for the direction they've taken.

Agreed. Seems like Seasonic wants to be like everyone else and offer a dirt cheap PSU line. Not that I can really blame their business strategy when everyone else does it too, but Seasonic has always at least been a mark of component quality, all the way down to the $50 S12IIs and M12IIs (performance not top notch but acceptable, and good component choice). This just needlessly waters down their reputation; I don't think these cheap units are going to be their top moneymaker.

Odds are you'll find a better PSU in the price range that's OEMed by Seasonic for a different brand.

I dont see the issue, that translated russian review says 'meh its not great, but its good for a budget unit with no coil whine, that can handle greater load than it advertises'

ive never had any problems with Seasonic but i never say never , ive had problems with corsair psu"s but only low priced units like CS/X, the RMs are solid in my view also what lets corsair down is the hoops you have jump through for a RMA where seasonic dont mess about so im told cos ive yet to have one kick the bucket on me. time will tell what B12 is like.

I mean, my HX750i had massive coil whine with my aorus 3080 (100% coming from the PSU) - but with the galax 3090 theres none at all.

Sometimes its the external hardware triggering the PSU to whine, too.
