Seasonic's Connect power supply is the first of its kind, a PSU with a backplane containing all the modular sockets. The backplane also has the DC-DC converters that generate minor rails. Installation is easy, and airflow inside the case is improved notably.

A great review as ever; but the question I'm still asking myself regarding this PSU, is why does it exist??

I was also concerned about the potential noise issue the PSU could create... then I saw this:

At this (inflated from the base platform/Focus)price, thankfully, there are plenty of alternatives.

Interesting attempt at "easy" cable management. I'm disappointed at the CONS though.

this does not seem to solve the issue of easy cable management? if not it actually limits your pc case choice as well.

Gotta hand it to Seasonic for making this. I definitely think it'll have an audience, but how big of an audience I'm not sure yet. I do hope, should this sell well, that they expand and improve the line up and overall design to definitely include various wattages and sizes of the actual connection hub. Though, I admit, it would probably be a bit difficult to make. say, an M-ATX version of this. But it would be cool to see so long as the performance is there.

This is here a really interresing product innovative product without costing an arm and a leg.

It's sad to see the "EMI performance" isn't great I don't believe the original Prime 750W from SeaSonic had this problem I could be wrong maybe Seasonic could fix this in a future release with noise and we will properly have a clear winner that would make cable management easier but for now my Prime 1200W 80+ Platinum is staying where it are would have been awesome with the connect doe.

I'd like to see this taken a step further, with connectors going directly into the backside of the motherboard, without cables.
This would of course need an updated motherboard form factor specification tho, very unlikely.

For that price they need to make 12VO 10pin, the secondary PCB must be optional, all the connectors 8 and 6+2 must also be present on the PSU. Replace braided cable with flat. 90 degree angled connector everywhere. Also needs to be much cleaner design and offer digital control of fan speeds protections and measurement visible in the OS to consider it.

They need to take it a step further ... I still have an old build her with an Antec D85 case. Among the innovative features was:

a) SATA Backplane .... there with no cable required for the HDS, SSHDS, SSDs. The PSU cable plugged into the backplane; the devices simply slid into the cages and pushed into the connectors. The "connect module" could be incorporated right into the case

b) Hot swap 2.5" Drive bay incorporated into the case w/ front access.

Hi Matt,

Thank you for your comment and glad you appreciate our CONNECT.
We like your idea but as you said, it involves a huge change with motherboard but we never know what the future can bring !

For everyone else, thanks for the different feedback on our CONNECT, we greatly appreciate them as it will help us to improve our product in the future.

Best regards,

Fixed, we revamped the structure for PSU reviews and forgot to remove the 2nd version :)
It's cleaner now but i've just noticed that you omitted voltage regulation tables (10-100% load, CL1/2, low and very-low load tests) for this review and subsequent ones, it's important, please don't :)

I like it
But
Hasn't Seasonic overlooked what would be a huge selling point with this 12 volt only concept:
A graceful shutdown supercap option module...
They could fit in the main PSU now, or in a separate module that the main cable plugs into first.

I'm getting one and modding it!
