Just found this forum and read through a lot of posts, can't' believe I didn't discover this place sooner. Seems to be a great community.

Here's my issue:

My current build has worked flawlessly for about a year. A couple of months ago the computer stopped recovering from a Sleep state, and it would not power back up after a manual shutdown. Furthermore, the computer would also shutdown without warning while under load (via an intentional stress test and/or gaming). Once the rig powered down via either method, it would not power back up unless the power cord was disconnected from the psu and/or flipping the psu switch. After about five minutes it would power back on again. Also note that while under normal conditions, email, web surfing, etc. the rig would stay on without issue.

I did the normal rounds, paperclip test (even though it doesn't mean much), memtesting, removed overclocks, reinstalled BIOS, reset cmos, etc. I even swapped power supplies and the problem still persisted. So I checked all the cables, pins, connections, etc. Nothing that I could tell. Even checked the case wiring for a faulty power button that might be causing issues. Nada.

I concurred it was a motherboard issue, and got approved for an RMA from ASUS. They sent me a brand new board, I popped it in, and everything worked fine (I could power up/shutdown all day, and stressing didn't do a thing), that is for about a period of three weeks. Then the rig shutdown during a game of Battlefield without warning, and I'm now right back where I started: rig powers down under load and will not power back up unless power is disconnected from the psu.

I went through the same troubleshooting this time around, minus swapping psu's again, and nothing seems to work. I even reformatted my drive this time and left a barebones system with just Windows 7 and the basic, necessary drivers. No dice.

I'm stumped. A second bad motherboard? Seems highly unlikely to me. I have timid OC's and absolutely no heating issues. Cpu never exceeds 45C, motherboard never exceeds 35C, and the gpu has never exceeded 55C. Case is well ventilated and the rig is in a very cold room in my home.

If the psu is bad, I don't quite understand how it worked fine after swapped motherboards for a period of three weeks, then reverted back to having issues.

Ideas? Comments? Suggestions?
Thanks!

Why such a big PSU? Not that it should matter. RMA the PSU next. Check the motherboard standoffs

Because I would rather have too much wattage for SLI and more longevity in the psu as it wears down over time. But mainly because when I bought it, it was during a super sale, and I got it very cheap from Amazon.

I'm actually in the middle of an RMA with Seasonic. My Platinum 1000w unit has a problem of not being able to power back on after sleep or full shutdown. I have to remove the power lead and slowly re - insert it, wait for it to 'crackle' and it sparks to life.

New unit should arrive this week.

Do you have another 1155 motherboard you can test the components on? Might be an Asus issue.

Thanks the54thvoid.

Do you mind reposting here when you receive your unit and let me know how everything went? Our issues sound quite similar.

Vario: Unfortunately not. I've also been unable to find other people with similar issues that are specifically using the same motherboard.

Slight update:
My new psu should be arriving tomorrow or Monday. I had expected Seasonic would email me and keep me up to date, or even let me know what the issue was, but no. Just an email with a tracking number from ups. I guess we'll see.

Update:
Received the new unit today which is a refurb, but in good condition. So far so good. I can boot up and power down without issue, and after 3 hours of stress testing it hasn't shut down once. I'll let it run as is for a couple weeks then set my overclocks again, run for another couple of weeks and then provide another update, but so far the problem seems to be fixed.

On a side-note, Seasonic (In the Unite States at least) has had a very stress-free RMA process. The only downside is they don't give you updates on your RMA. You just suddenly get an email with your tracking number for your new unit, which is a real shame because I wanted to know what exactly was wrong with my unit.
