Second NZXT H710 with completely worn out PCIe Thumbscrew threads....

so i bought an H710 and i am very happy with it... except for the PCIe Slot screws and it's holes.

After FIVE very soft GPU installations the holes for both slots are completely round and i can just stick the screws in with no problem.
they won't grip anything and i only can let the GPU sit on the third slot thumb screw.

i RMAd the Case and got a new one.

same problem after installing 5-6 GPUs. completely round, no thread existing anymore.

any idea how to bandaid fix that for resale? i will sell it for cheap and buy a meshify S2

i guess that will work for like one or two installations before it completely gets destroyed.

they use like a 5-10mm long hair thin channel where the screw goes in. that is completely dissolved into fine dust within one gpu swap.

i barely tighten them at all.
i screw them in until it gets very slightly harder to turn than without any force. and then i stop (the GPU is even able to move)

but it still rains metal flakes every time and after 2-3 times it is already barely holding anything.

Sounds like poor manufacturing where they use light gauge steel where it should have been reinforced.
I remember old steel cases where I could use a screw driver to tighten them down hard.

It's junky case then stop using it and buy something else after getting a refund as @Caring1 said it's obviously made of crap steel I more often strip screws before striping the case's screw holes on steel cases

Sounds like they could have mixed up the screw thread counts, but having machined screws damaging sheet metal with just hand screwing in doesnt seem right, if the machined metal screws dont screw down all the way without using any force, its not the right thread count.

They do make Tool&Die kits for such small screws/holes but with the real cheap-o cases its really not worth the hassle, so just use a c-clamp

and since you can't screw any to that, you may try zipties to hold the card or just buy smaller screws

Are you using the right screws? May seem a stupid question but still. The other option is a manufacturing defect.

Yea, get a different case. That should not be happening. I wonder if they cheaped out on the metal used?

Its not OP's fault it's NZXT, they over torque their screws at the factory which begins the process of pulling the threads out plus they use really soft steel for the case.
My H510 had the same problem every single screw in the case including thumbscrews was torqued down so tight from the factory I had to use my drivers for work to get them loose, after two years all the side panel screws thumbscrews and PCI bracket screws had no thread left.
I build electrical control panels for work and do a lot of drilling and tapping of all kinds of steel enclosures and can speak from experience this is 100% some nob and the NZXT factory not knowing how to set the torque on his screw gun.

The only bandaid fix is to tap the holes for larger screws.
The meshify S2 is a great case, I switched to a Lancool 2 mesh and cannot be more pleased for all the engineering and quality they put into this <$100 case.

Not exactly case-related, but this reminds me of when I had Asus' Crosshair VIII Impact. On the board, there's this metal plate where the sound card is. I remember having to work with it during my build, and I couldn't believe how tiny the screws were...and how damn cheap they were. I stripped both screws just taking the SUPREME FX plate off. Not to mention they used lock-tight on 'em at the factory. Why use thread-lock on something that's meant to be removed?
