LoL! You got me wrong, I wasn't saying that you hear 50 cent... in fact I do hear a lot !
I was just pointing that recordings we are used to hear day by day are not made for hi-fi use. :)

Of course, but your telling that to the wrong person, as I stated I am an Audiophile I also have highly sensitive hearing on-top of that due to my dyslexia I "tune in" to sounds other people don't usually hear.

I can tell the difference between low end phones and high end phones, but for me it does not warrant the price.

Especially as when your using lower end phones you become "used" to them any-ways.

Not trying to defecate* in anyone's biscuits here, just throwing some shapes, offering an alternative view on high end hardware : ]

Anyway, I do beleive people got to hear a nice setup before saying about it. In fact this is what I'm doing here, I've never heard senn 800 to be talking about it... but I have 555 and 650 and taking others opinion, I can have an idea about it.... :toast:

I do like Hi-Fi hardware, yes. Do I have money to buy top notch ? No! Do I consider myself and audiophile guy ? Not even close. I just don't have the knowledge I judge necessary to consider myself an audiophile. I've never even heard that must hardware to know which is worth and why.

You make audiophile sound like it takes some kind of special requirement.

Break the word into two pieces and it becomes clear what it means : ]

We all know what audio means, perhaps you don't know what phile as a suffix means

"Suffixes with the common part -phil- (-phile, -philia, -philic) are used to specify some kind of attraction or affinity to something, in particular the love or obsession with something."

Do you believe that a stone can make your music sound more like chocolate?
Are you willing to pay 500 dollars for a meter of USB cable?
Can you hear the EM waves from the sun?

If you answer no to any of them, you're not an audiophile, not even close.

Nah. I'm just a sound engineer of 23 years standing. Like the stone bit. :p
BTW, used to be a radio ham, so have heard the effects of interference from the sun.

If you listen via PC, you usually can heard intereference from that. :D Tough, most ppl dont hear them.. (sad is, that I do hear things that none else does:( ). Makes my choice of headphones bit expensive..

About good recording studios, try that one which Apocalyptica has.. they must use best equip available, cause they have perfect recording. Im using it as reference for headphones reviews. :D Tough, melodic metal is good for this, even if its not Apocalyptica.

50 cent just won't deserve this kind of SQ, neither any Sony, and blah recordings.... they are all too artificial with dynamic compression, separeted voice and instruments recording, voice modification, special effetcs and so on.... just forget it.
Do a research, there are quite a few audiophile devoted labels.
Chesky Records, Mo-Fi Studio, FIM, Reference Recordings, among many others devoted to create a recording as transparent as possible, in special, Chesky (to my taste). They use a single microphone, to record all the action. With this kind of recording you get the live presetention aspect of the music, if it wasn't there, audiophile gear would be a waste of money in my opinion. They also got their Hi-End codecs.... MSFL, K2 HD, XRCD 24, etc..
Good recordings and good hardware recreate the soundstage, and Senn HD-800 is praised a lot in reviews for that. You just won't fell in your skin the music, but your brain may create this sansation....

I'll add more, you just don't need 7.1 effects with a proper recording and a headphone or stereo speaker. 7.1 is BS....
Look for Virtual Barber Shop a demo on Cetera Codec..... download their mp3 and you'll get freaked (only works with headphones). The better your setup the better sensation of being there you'll have. :toast:
BTW, link for it: http://media.noob.us/virtualbarbershop.mp3

Cheers Mussels, I appreciate I can be hard to understand at times.

I mean I could be inside the studio that is all sound proofed and the sound will be far greater quality as a real life experience vs any headphones.

Soundproof is a small part of the equation. If the room is too dead it sounds wrong, and artificial. But it all depends on what you are doing. Some music needs to sound real as such, some is fine being different. I love mixing live music. It has an energy hard to recreate in studio. But live will never be as pristine as studio. The acoustics and mics are always a compromise live. But each has it's place.

I listen to high quality audiophile recordings, and electronic. Each has it's place.

It is not just about having the correct gear, it is also about having the know-how to set it up correctly. You can make absolutely horrible recordings with the best stuff around if you do not know your way around a studio. The high quality record labels are light years ahead of the generics in terms of recording and mastering quality.

This is worth having a look at if you are serious about headphone listening. This VA album from Chesky records http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/he...-assemble-headphone-system-test-album-476089/ Amazing vocal performances and inspirational music. On a proper system the sound quality is outstanding. To get the optimal sound quality you will need a 96 kHz / 24-bit capable source.

Honesty, very few guys use 192kHz. Still very little gear that supports it. 24/96 is the the serious standard.

If you can still find them, I'm a fan of DMP and Sheffield labs. Really good labels.

This kind of effect is achieved with a dummy head and mics placed on both side of it head. It's just like you were really there, I compre it to the new 3D video format, but much more imersive because information can come from every direction, unlike watching to lcd tvs. I'm pretty confident that's the future of music (at least for headphone use)

Using my senn hd-650 and Franken ZERODAC When the guy says "Cetera!" in the end, is just too scary, I can even fell the pressure of his breath.

You might want to search for: binaural, and you'll find a lot of this kind of stuff.... but barbershop is by far the best I have ever heard....

If you find something interesting, let us know.

Agreed, 24/96 is the new standard. BTW Chesky Records has their albums to DL over their website using 24/96khz flac.... it won't get better than that for quite some time. About $12.00 per CD well worth it.

WTF!!! I'd drop $750 on a set of amazing cans. No problem. But $1400 is too much for me, and I use $30 soap.

:slap:

Check out the HiFiMan HE-5 + EF5. Many people prefer them to the HD800s.

Aren't they basically the same?

...I just said they aren't. People who think $1000 USB cables make a difference do not represent audiophiles. There's a difference between thinking all sorts of bullshit tweaks with no scientific backing makes a difference, and thinking that a higher end amplifier, DAC, headphones and/or speakers make a difference.
