So I had the xfx 8800 gs, went to the 4850 and found terrible driver support. Not a significant jump from the gs. Should I bite and get this?

Keep the 4850. It rapes both those cards. Driver support will be fixed soon.

Not a bad card. Very nice cooler. It's now out of stock though.

If you have a 4850 why the hell would you buy a 8800GT.. Just wait for good drivers.. your lucky you even have one..

I choose patience. Learn as much as you can about your current hardware i.e. what it can do/cannot do, etc. Did you actually try reinstalling Windows? It would make more sense to do that than keep throwing your money at new hardware.

Uh no, do not bite - it'll only bite back. The 4850 obliterates the 8800gt - even at the gt's highest OC. The 4850's drivers aren't mature at all. Give it about 2 months. By that time, it should eat anything in its price range.

Ahh they increased the price. Yeah, crysis and unreal tournament 3 show little or no improvement

Source games such as CSS and DODS don't really run at the high fps that they should either

Sir Jangly. Click where it says User CP and fill out your system specifications. Then tick the box that allows others to see them. I know I've asked this in other theads as well. Have you reinstalled Windows???? :wtf:

Not with a phenom and old existing drivers..

And maxed out do you mean with AA? Cause I only get 50-70fps with 16x AA.

Phenom shouldn't really be holding you back. Are you running vsync, cause that'll keep your fps down to your refresh rate. Do you really need 100fps?

low details = cpu bottlenecked
high details = gpu bottlenecked

clean out the old nv drivers first and formost,(which may require an os reinstall) then you should be able to run dod source maxed out and still be getting high frames.

Grab yourself the 8.7 Beta drivers SirJangly. That gave a really nice boost with my 4870. Seriously though, the 4850 completely outperforms the 8800GT, and you can put AA on with hardly a hit to your performance (I don't notice more than 2-3 fps drop enabling 4X AA

).

Uninstall your current drivers, boot into safe mode, run Driver Cleaner Pro (google), reboot and install the 8.7s.
