Its in stock at newegg and im wondering if prices are gonna drop dramatically after chrismas
for only 220 it looks like a good deal + the direct exhaust fan is nice

or just get the plain old sapphire one with the single slot cooler and save a few bucks

tell me what you think and dont go buying them all

Not quite sure because if you probably look hard enough, you might be able to find 3870s for around that price. Case in point, BestBuy had a sale on VisionTek HD3870s for $215 USD not too long ago.

yes buy it.. the 3870s are impossible to get and a 512 850 with a decent cooler would make a nice card..

I don't think I've ever seen an HD 3870 with 256mb RAM before. Also here's an HD 3870 that is $229 after rebates in stock by HIS.

yeah bro there aren't 3870s with 256MB ram, you must have been confused

quite honestly I would just go with the sapphire for a lower price and pick up a good aftermarket cooler in the next month or so
there are usually some for sale in the B/S/T forum

I'd wait till after xmas... all this way above MSRP nonsense will end pretty abruptly, along with demand.

I was going to say that, but I'm not sure the 3850s are going to move much in price, it's the 3870s and 8800GTs that are inflated most

prices will most likely drop after christmas...they usually do...i couldn't wait though, i had to play crysis before christmas, i got the HD 3850 256mb, does crysis at 1280x1024 mostly medium/high settings without AA but looks pretty good, the 512mb 3850 would most likely perform better with AA enabled...but anyways, 2 years ago i bought an x1600xt when it launched before chrstmas, was over 200...and then after christams it went down to 179...and then like a few weeks later the 7600gt came to the table in the same price bracket as the reduced x1600xt...i was mad...oh well....and that was on NCIX...

my crystal ball.. after christmas.. all 8800gt cards will be in the 256 bracket (no 512 versions) and be cheaper.. 8800gts cards will stay high-ish..

ati dont seemed to have produced many 3870 cards for some reason.. its all 850s.. demand isnt super high its more the cards dont exist. i dont see prices dropping much after chrismas.. they might even go up..

i am waiting for the 3870 x 2 to arrive and at what price it arrives at.. and whether or not two chips on one card work better than two cards in crossfire.. if they dont it will be waste of space..

and "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" or so they tell me.. he he he

I'd buy two and Crossfire them :p

One warning. HD 3850s are voltage limited. Regardless of cooling you won't be seeing over 770 on the core where as HD 3870s may range up to 860. If you use a BIOS flash higher.

Personally I think they would be great cards and would likely do on the order of 760 all day and all night. I got two of the 256Mb type and dropped them into my alt rig. They were 159usd a pop and I am running them @ 730|999 from overdrive. When ATi Tool starts working with them I'll push them to 760. I've already tested them separately with rivatuner and know they can hold that clock.

my two didnt.. it looked like they "might" but both needed to be lowered right down to 835-ish for genuine gaming stability.. so it aint as easy as a bios flash.. they would need volt mods to go over the 860 mark..
