Should I go SLI or go ATi?

Hey guys,

I'm currently running an XFX 7600 GT card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150140

Its not a bad card but it's somtimes lacking in my Racing Sims. My question is if i'm getting say 50fps in my racing sim with one card, what gains can I expect to see going SLi? To keep it simple for your answer, I will use exactly the same graphics setting with two cards.

Is there an ATi card out there that will destroy this SLi configuration under $350? Because that's what my SLi config will cost me if I decide to go that route.

Thanks ! :D

it`s clearly your choice mate..
personally i`d go for a single high-end card instead of a mid-range Sli.

crossfire benchmarks higher than quad SLI, during to silly system bottlenecks, which dont even need to be there.

a high end ATI card will kill any single slot high end nvidia card. so get yourself a 1900XTX or wait till the DX10 cards drop, its only 4 months away

So would you say running two 7600 GT cards in SLi mode is better than say using one ATi 1900 XT? What kind of performance jump does an SLi config give over using just one card, 10/20 percent?

I'm sure a lot depends on the nvidia sli chipset. If the sli is @ 16x and 16x then i'm sure its pretty quick. Those are pretty expensive mobo's. Which mobo do you have?

2x 7600GT's could not beat a single X1900XT

The 7900gtx is very comparable to an 1900xt/xtx.. It is actually faster at lower resolutions, about the same at mid resolutions and only loses out by a few fps at the highest resolutions depending on the game..

The 1900xt/xtx also eats 1/3 more power..runs 1/3 hotter and makes alot more noise..

So i guess its just a matter of choice..

See that's what concerns me is the heat/noise/power consumption. The XFX 7600GT is a low power card. I'm running a 500 Watt PS with split 12v rails.

For under $350, you can snag an X1900XT, which would destroy the 7600SLI setup.

WHOOPS, I ASSumed that it was going to be a 7600 SLI, my bad. Which SLI setup would you be using then?

Even still my advice stays the same, it's less complicated and less things can go wrong.

It shouldn't matter if your SLI motherboard is Dual X8 or Dual X16, unless you have Quad-SLI since the 7950GX2s are the only cards that require X16. Not really much of a performance gain between Dual X8 or Dual X16, the high-end cards out right now only takes up about X6-X7 bandwidth.

Don't get an X1900XTX, waste of money. Get an X1900XT, then flash to XTX. Same exact card. I would recommend HIS because they have the best stock coolers, and their IceQ III is copper too, better than Zalman VF900-Cu and AC Accelero X2.

Now that the x1950 Pro has been announced I may wait to see how this card performs. I would pull the trigger on the 1900XT but i'm not sure my 500 Watt Enermax could handle the power consumption of that card.

It was real tempting to buy it this weekend as Connect3d dropped the price of their X1900XT to $349 with a $50 rebate, Newegg usually has some really good deals.

That Enermax will do fine, the X1900XT reccomends a 450W.

Yeah, I was really just going on a benchmark spree. When the shit got thick, my card thined out. In game, when there was lots of stuff going on, it dipped really low at times. Now I play with some settings turned down.

a 79gt will never beat a x19xt

on low resolutions its all cpu based and let hm maybe oblivion run on 1600x1200 then you will notice the difference
