So would you say the Corsair at 650W non-modular for £63 is a good deal??

Compared to the Thermaltake 750w modular for £80??

Which would everyone pick.

What is the difference between CWT and Seasonic Manufacturers.

I am assuming here that Seasonic make the Corsair TX 650??

Cheers.

i love seasonic, they make the best psu's all around and really dont have any black marks on them. i've only seen 1 bad corsair psu so far on tpu in all the time corsair psu's have been around and seasonics are the way to go.

i dont like CWT because they are notorious for making the shitty smartpower series.. which were utter absolute crap psu's and some of their many other psu's haven't been good. while the thermaltake psus it makes are good... i just dont trust the oem because their track record sucks and i'd rather stick with a company thats been consistent and top notch all along, like seasonic.

If you can live without modular the Corsair 550 or 650 will be excellent PSs. If you have to have modular the Corsair 620 wins.

Well Im not splashing out another £20 for modular. If you guys think the corsair is best and can cope with me adding another 3870. I will go for the TX650.

If CWT made the smartpower series then the thermaltake is off my list. I have an Antec SamrtPower atm :slap: . Didnt know at the time :( . Maybe that is why im getting boot failures every now and again??

the 650 will give you an extra bit of headroom to use later on if you need.

According to Extreme Outervision:

"I received a few emails from our readers that suggest the TX650 built by Seasonic. However, the official confirmation from Corsair representative states that this unit built by Channel Well Technology. I will double check with Corsair and keep you posted."

And Driver Heaven:

"The unit is built on a CWT PCB, a popular maker in this power range."

 . I'm so confused now!!!

Then I just found this on Silent PC review:

"It's another high quality, quiet PSU made for Corsair, again, by Seasonic. Interestingly, the TX650 is also made by Seasonic, but the VX550 and TX750 are both made by Channel Well. It's not clear why different suppliers were used for these various models."

And this on tom's Hardware:

Apparently that is a Corsair techie on tom's hardware. Think that the quotes I posted above, the review sites got confused over the 750w and 650w series??

Thanks.

Even if you didn't have any problems I would suggest buying a better PSU anyway. TT psus are pretty good, my uncle has a TT 750w that powers his 8800GTS 320MB SLI system w/ a 6000+.

I'm probably gonna go for the Corsair TX 650. The thermaltakes are apparently made by CWT same as the SmartPower I've got :ohwell: .
And the corsair is about £20 cheaper.

I have wanted to get a Seasonic PSU ever since I found out about, how crappy the SmartPower series of Antec's can be. but thought I wouldnt be able to afford one, and didnt know Corsair use them.

Just hope that Toms hardware and silent PC review are correct and the TX650 is a seasonic...

03/04/2008 I received a few emails from our readers that suggest the TX650 built by Seasonic. However, the official confirmation from Corsair representative states that this unit built by Channel Well Technology. I will double check with Corsair and keep you posted.

apparently the review above from eXtremeOV says the Corsair TX650 is built by CWT but that Corsair Rep on Toms says Seasonic however the insides suggest both the TX650 and HX520 are the same design as Seasonic uses Two Heatsinks the CWT uses Three.

HX520 (Seasonic)

TX650 (Seasonic)

Thanks.

It should be here tomorrow. Wonder if it will make my system quieter?
Should help CPu cooling with a 120mm fan above the processor.

Should be good, then I can have a go at OCing my GFx card cus these Cat 8.4's are apparently a lot more stable.

Dont suppose you got any ideas for my Dad's PC have you?

it arrived today. :D . Its actually smaller than the smartpower  .

Anyways. I noticed that my voltages have dropped now. In windoes before 12v was 12.32v. And in bios it was 12.14v.
Now it is 12.05v all the time (bios and speedfan)

Only thin is it seems to have made it a bit unstable  .
I have so far had 1 BSOD. and it locked up after 2mins of orthos :ohwell: .

Is it just that cus they old PSU was overvolting, so my old settings were okay? But now it is the correct voltage I need to up my voltages?

I have a pretty hefty OC. 3.24Ghz from 2.4Ghz, with only a bump up one notch on CPU core voltage nothing else.

Hope I havent got a dud PSu :(

Cheers.

quite likely.

To be honest you want everything perfectly at 12V 5V and 3.3V - overvolts may help OC things, but it also overvolts your fans, your hard drives, your DVD drives...

Those CWT built Antecs are crap, not because of the OEM, but because Antec specified the design. It was a crap design, CWT just followed their customer's instructions. Both the Corsair you chose, and the Thermaltake are good choices.

It locked up on the 3dmark06 CPu test too. I have upped my chipset and FSB voltages one notch. I'll run it again now.

I also noticed. That with my old PSU. My fans rated for 1500rpm rotated at about 1600rpm. Now they spin at 1499rpm. I guess the 12v rail is bang on now then.

pretty much. cheaper PSU's tend to drop at load, so they set them higher at idle

cheap PSU - 12.4v drops down to 12.1v at load

'great' PSU - 12.05v at idle, 12.00 (or thereabouts) at load

perfect would be 12.00 the whole time, but we never get that and shouldnt expect it.

I've had to drop my OC a bit. I had to drop the fsb by 4. Now it is orthos and memtest stable.

Thanks for all you help!!
