so with the big bit coin mining boom going on should I sell my R9 fury? I feel like the 4gbs of vram is holding me back at my resolution 2560x1080. If I do sell it I was looking at the msi or zotac 1070 or 1080. Any advice would be very helpful.

Yeah, get rid of it and get a nice NVIDIA card, like you suggested.

For the resolution that you're running at, I wouldn't go lower than a 1080 and maybe consider a 1080 Ti. If you wanna save money on the Ti, some FE cards can be had more cheaply than the custom models and will really shine at that resolution. Obviously don't buy a 1080 FE.

Quite a few games don't break 60% usage at 5760x1080 on my 1080TI.

I noticed many amd gpu's not just the top shelf ones are selling for way above normal price. Presumably due to cryptocoins...thinking

Well I'm gaming @ 1440p with my GTX 1070 and it works just fine....:p

Ok if you have the cash, take a 1080 (Ti).
That's quite a big difference in resolution, so the faster card could be quite noticeably faster here. It also depends on what framerate one finds acceptable. For me, the absolute lowest is 60fps while I much prefer 100fps or more.

Quite a few games don't break 60% usage at 5760x1080 on my 1080TI.
There you go, a great argument for the 1080 Ti!

So will a 1080 or 1080 ti with a gsync monitor run steady frames maxed at 1440p even with modded games like fallout 4

1080Ti will run them with the very occasional frame drop but nothing that would be noticeable.

I doubt any gpu would. Not due to lack of gpu perf, but due to the various factors when dealing with mods.

Whenever you introduce an unknown variable it changes an equation greatly. Seeing as how manufacturers could never account for a mod or several mods created a year or more after the video card itself it could cause extremely low frames, or not.

Then you also have poor optimization as well, not so much with fallout ,but if you take a game like metro. I can have SLI GTX 970 which should crush that game but if I run it at full detail I get 60 to 70 frames per second on the benchmark which is absurd for a game that came out five years before the video cards were created .

Makes sense. I play mostly elite dangerous now. With fallout 4, i never got past say level 25 with any character. Wanna complete that game. I need to get battlefield 1 too.

Unless it costs you next to nothing i wouldnt bother trading it for a 1070, its pretty much a sidegrade, check one of wizzards gpu reviews (the most recent review with both cards in comparison charts will be on more recent drivers), they will both drop below 60fps around the same settings

get a 1080 or ti

no offense but every game tested the 1070 beat the fury by 15-20 fps. not to mention the fps isn't really the issue its more Vram the 4gb of the Fury really holds me back in a lot of modern titles which leads to major performance hits.

I was actually going by the fury x in wizzards reviews, not a regular fury, my bad, though i'm sure they choke at around the same point

I had a non x fury for a while before getting a 1070, and i really think you will find the 1070 choke around the same point too, in between 2560x1440 and 4k (by in between i mean 2560 with Antialiasing)

Im not arguing against nvidia, i just think you should look at a 1080 as a minimum upgrade, they are also pretty close priced to 1070's since they dropped in price

so with the big bit coin mining boom going on should I sell my R9 fury? I feel like the 4gbs of vram is holding me back at my resolution 2560x1080. If I do sell it I was looking at the msi or zotac 1070 or 1080. Any advice would be very helpful.
Sell it.
