the 2x 6970 DCU II will eat up that 6990. Fact. The DCU II's coolers are very effective, it's quiet even at 100%, well based on my sibling's GTX 580 DCU II model and I bet two of those will be quieter than a reference 6990.

Because of a changed situation of income i decided to buy two times a 6990....

Did you just say 2x 6990? Unless you're planning on triple, nay, sixtle screen monitoring you are pissing your money away. And don't say you're future proofing, no such thing in the long term.

Get one 6990 and blow the rest on the dutch national sport of hookers and dope.

I can vouch for the heat....

2 6970s also make a lot of noise too....

My vote is 2 6970`s

Also on the Cross-Air V He could run the cards in the default slot (1-3 I think for 16x) and put the sound car in the 8x slot(any 8x pice slot can plug any pcie card from 1x-8x in it) and set in bios to use 1-4x speed.....problem solved.

Now for noise why do you guys use 100% fan when gaming?
I set mine since I purchased them to 50% fan-speed and I have never had them overheat. The most i set them to when overclocked is 70% any thing over that speed I find its like watching a Rice-rocket on a drag strip and the poor little turbo charger is screaming I wish i had aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa V8........

and again fail on the tpu members for not looking at the specs

990FX Asus Crosshair V Formula, which is ment for Bulldozer,

im guessing everyone forgot how to add 1 + 1 to get to 2, Athlon II 240 is cheap as dirt, pops in and works on 990fx of course, and oh yea its cheap as dirt, why buy a $140 - $200 phenom chip to pair with a board when the plan is bulldozer,

i love how so few lack common sense in which to see what direction the OP is headed.

so for those that dont get it yes im being a douchebag  and im doing it in good fun

cpu dosent matter since already been established it will be a bulldozer rig, i mean come on who buys $300 + motherboard and puts a $40 cpu in it unless there waiting on the badass chip to arrive really ppl come on ;)

as for 6970 x2 or 6990 i still vote 6970 crossfire as far as i know just move the cards down a few slots

aka leave the top PCIe open and move the other gpu down further to slots 2 and 3 for xfire, then you can use your sound card, see wasnt that hard just took some brain power

heres a small diagram to show what i am talking about cause everyone loves pictures.

http://img.techpowerup.org/110802/Untitled-1.jpg

Why not just use the top pci-e slot for the 1st gpu..
2nd gpu in the 2nd slot as it should be for x-fire and pop the sound card into the bottom slot? thats the way I have mine and it looks dam sexy too :rockout:
It's not hard to figure that out lol...

Also whats the memory clocking out on a 6970?

well. since the fan RPM rarely goes above 35% while playing BC2, I just manually set the fan to 40-45% any higher and it just becomes really obtrusive while gaming.
