So can a single GX2(check the link in my system specs).

That's 3D mark 06 and thats how much my 4850 crossfire setup scored in 3d mark06

EDIT: my 4850's actually scored 21k in 3dmark06

I'm suprised that this thread got a little more action, I thought it was dead already.

Now if your planning on getting the 4850 and selling them, you can probably get the same amount of money for just selling the GX2 and 9850BE, if not more.

Problem is nobody's buying the 9850, and I don't really know what would be a realistic upgrade with that $300 or so that I would get for them. It seems like it would just end up being a linear trade off.

you know my vote, 2gb GTX285.

Ha! Paypal me an extra $300 when you decide to get that backplate and I'll do it.

Well, I'm not folding, but what I am looking at is pure performance in gaming.
Overall which would get me better FPS?
Would you like to be folding? If you still have the 9800GX2, it's a great folding card and very well respected in F@H. C'mon, give it a shot.;)

If you walk me through how to get it folding correctly instead of just on one GPU I'll start.

It's from two different people, between the two trades I would end up with three HD4850s for my GFX and CPU

A 4850 is DEFINITELY not a better performer than a 9800GTX+.

I would keep a GX2 over any other set up any time. Have you seen the benchmarks for your card. It destroys most anything. What's the problem, you're not getting 60FPS in Crysis at full 1080 or something? I mean jeez, talk about overkill.

Actually, my GX2 would stutter playing crysis, granted that was at 1920*1200 all details set to very high. For 60 FPS, details have to be at high(not very high) and resolution down to like 1024*768 IIRC. My GTX260 would outperfom the 9800gx2 when it came down to minimum fps, and that's more important than maximum fps.

Thank you for this insight, what it's in reference to is a mystery to me though, seeing as how this is the first mention of a GTX+ in this thread.

Yep, I own the card afterall :p But like I said earlier, I'm not worried about benchmarks, I like high FPS in gaming.

Actually yes, that is one of the reasons.

Well. 9800GX2 is two 8800GTS G92, which are a little worse than a HD 4850. So three 4850's would be a lot better in most apps :)
Crossfire isn't that hard to setup. Just put one card in, install the drivers, put another in, install drivers for it, and do the same for the 3rd. I've setup a quad HD 3870 system before and it didn't take that long to get working!
I thought the 9800gx2 was actually 2 8800gt's. Its strange how info like this is different on multiple forums.

Crossfire used to be a bitch to setup (trust me I know) But with the 9.2+ drivers it has been nothing but easy for me. I've had sli twice and CF once and honestly when everything goes right and the stars are aligned and a ray of light shoots out of the clouds CF is so much easier to setup. You just install the drivers and BAM.

A 4850 is DEFINITELY not a better performer than a 9800GTX+.

Well.... Actually it is. It sucks that I have a 2x 4850's because I am considered bias right now but I have seen plenty of benchies and most of the time the 4850 is out on top.

If i was the OP I'd take the 3 4850's and sell one and get a mobo. tri anything really doesn't do much.

The R700 and GT200 cores are much more powerful than the G90's. For example, with AA on an R700 or GT200 would do a lot better than a G90.

The crossfire can be fast if the drivers work properly, many people have issues with 4850's in crossfire, they are HOT, and to properly cool them you need faster fanspeed which increases noise too much, 3 of them would be hard to keep quit and cool. 9800GX2 IMO is a better card overall, runs cooler and quieter.

I had 2 4850's crossfired with zero problems setting up. They ran nice and cool with fan speeds at 50%. I've ran a few cf setups with ease. Don't know what people are doing wrong, to me its very easy to do. :toast:

I have to disagree the 4850 and 9800+ are neck to neck in almost everything. I think 3 4850s would be better. 2 4850s should about = 9800Gx2 so the 3rd one even if it scales poorly should put it over what the 9800Gx2 can do but i don't think it would be worth getting a new board. keep the gx2

Damn Nvidia ad their confusing bogus renaming of all their cards. Folding onthe GX2 is a breeze. If you use Vista you will eed a second monitor or Dummy plug. This is to fool stupid Vista into letting you expand your desktop to the additioal GPU.

You need to go into Nvidia CP and diable PhysX and disable SLI (mutli GPU) then go to "Personalize Desktop" and "attach" Display #3 to your desktop.

Copy the FAH zip to a pair of folders on a directoryof your choice name them something like FAH1 and FAH2 ad expand them into the folders and rename the exe FAH1 and FAH2 or w/e then copy and paste a shortcut for each to desktop or w/e and open properties and edit the targt with the flag -gpu 0 for one of them and -gpu 1 for the other and you are ready to start up the concole clients.

Gotta use the console clients (6.23)

In XP no need for a Dummy plug.

get the deal done! it's sweet already.

get a new board with xfire.

yes, his iceq4 4850 is a different story, it's cooler compared to some 4850's and 4870's even if when overclocked.
