Hi guys, well long story short my GTX570 was broken i RMA it and got an GTX670. I am now wondering should i upgrade my current setup to Ivy bridge so i can utilize the full potential of the new card?
I was thinking of 3750K, 8 Gigs and some nice Gigabyte mobo but is it worth it?

Cheers :)

With running a Q9400 that is only clocked at 3.4ghz, I would say yes. You would see a nice boost in gaming going to socket 1155, whether you go sandy bridge or ivy bridge(personally, I prefer SB because of thier generally lower running temps and minimal performance boost IB give over SB).

Oh and Haswell isn't going to give any performance boost over IB, it'll just be more energy efficient from the reports I have read about it so far.

I'd say 100% yes, and this is based on me upgrading from a Q9550 @ 3.8Ghz to a 2600k. My 2600k is so much faster than my Q9550.

Yeah wait for Haswell. New things feel better. Also you may go for AMD. The latest FX8350 even defeats the i7 3770K in some games and multithreaded benchmarks but suffers in single thread benchmarks but that will not matter much as very few applications use single thread. Also, you can overclock the hell out of that CPU and gain a significant performance boost.

Slow down there. i would not recommend a FX 8350 over a i7-3770K when considering a new build and this is coming from a guy who has a oc'd 8320. Its a great chip yes but lacks in areas. Intel is the way to go for gaming when building new unless on a budget.

Are you really suffering from the lack of power? Like others have said why not wait until haswell? If not to buy a haswell rig you would get a some older generation stuff for cheaper. Did you get the GTX670 as a straight swap for the 570?

I thought same like you before. But this changed my mind.

AMD FX 8350 vs Intel 3570K vs 3770K vs 3820 - Gami...

AMD has gains for the future.

I don't see Haswell being that much of an upgrade over an IV.. Why wait? I wouldn't wait any longer if you have the money now.

Very well then, the upgrade is on its way. Thanks all

The only issue I would see with him updating is that 1155 is not set to receive any more CPUs and haswell will get a new socket but with that said I would find all used parts to save as much money as he could.

Yea, but seeing how he's still on a Q then I don't see him upgrading anytime soon after the IV. Plus, that IV still has a lot of life left in it and he can always upgrade to a 3770K later down the road. If Haswell was here now then I would agree with you, but I wouldn't wait a good 4 to 5+ months for a new socket. :toast:

I thought Haswell was slated for Q2 2013, that isn't 4-5 months away. I've read that Haswell is expected in June, that 3 months away. I would wait to see what it offers. It's not like the ability to upgrade is going to pick up and run away. Rushing an upgrade only wastes money. Kind of like how I got my Phenom II 940 before AM3 and the 955/965 rolled around. Was it bad, no. Did I regret it, a bit.

So think long and hard before you set your mind on a platform that is already EOL.

Ok then, I wouldn't wait 3 months to get the full potential of my new GTX670. I would suggest anyone with a Q9400 to get a new IV before waiting 3 months for almost the same performance. If you set around and wait for the next thing, you'll always be waiting.

If the games you play are running smoothly why upgrade and on the other side if you have the money be the "gamer/enthusiast" :D.
