Hard to say without knowing what hardware you have right now to know how much of an upgrade it would be for you. To be honest right now is a horrible time to build a new rig but only you can answer if it's worth the money or not.

The answer to the question, "Should I upgrade?" is usually another question: What isn't working as well as I'd like? The components with upgrade potential that's more than incremental are the processor and graphics. Either will cost you a LOT for any meaningful improvement, 5800X/2070 at minimum.

However, if you simply want to upgrade because you feel like it (we've all been there), go nuts. It's your money, and only you can decide how much value an upgrade has.

Hello, first thing i need to say thank you. Secondly, if there isn't any worth upgrade my spec, i won't upgrade it. You are correct. We now faced the worse environment, like lost the job, unstable income etc. I appreciate your comments to me. Once again, thank you!

Only you can decide if you need to upgrade anything. If you can answer this question and you can decisively say "Yes, I need to replace an item", then you have your answer.

So, here is the question:

What part of your computer is not giving you the performance you desire?

(when I asked myself that same question, it's been a long time coming and my answer has always been - first and fore most - my CPU. The i5-4670k I had wasn't cutting it for tasks I was making more use of so I finally did upgrade and I got a 5900x, new MB and RAM. Now I wish I could upgrade my 6 year old 980Ti, but I haven't been able to find a new GPU to replace it with.)

Hello, thank you!
if you ask me which parties that I don't like, i can actually tell you that i want to upgrade the fan cooler to NZXT COOLE X73. If my computer is supporting for it. And the second choice is upgrading my GPU.

Have you checked around the GPU market? If you can find an available GPU to upgrade to it is going to be insanely overpriced.

The NZXT X73 will fit in your case, but you may have to stop using the front mesh panel of the case, depending on if it'll fit inside the case or outside the case in the front. As far as upgrading the GPU, if you can sell you 1660 to off set the price of a RTX 2070/RTX 3060/RX 5800, then go for it. If not, I'd keep what you have for now and just keep trying to get a new GPU from one of the GPU drops that legit retailers do (Newegg [sold by Newegg], Best Buy, or Amazon[sold by Amazon]). I wouldn't go for anything less than a RTX 2070/RX 5800, other wise it would not be a worth the cost upgrade IMHO.

Money is an important things in environment of 2019 COVID. I will think about it. It's not upgrading my spec right time. I don't need to upgrade anything since my spec could be used for more than 4 years if no any problem, crashed, system shutdown and others etc. Thank you!

Why does everyone buy 12 to 15 components all at once?

I don't get it. Who can afford that?

Incremental upgrades is where it's at. Motherboard and CPU 2components (because you have to) is my maximum at any given time. :)

Buy quality, don't buy quantity.

If you can manage to get a GPU at MSRP, it would be a great upgrade. For the cooler I think as long as the CPU is not throttling, don't waste money on it.

It's easy to buy new parts to make it a different computer, not necessarily a better one though.

Probably the most effective upgrade would be to go with a 5600X because your B550 board is already compatible with it. Zen 3 availability woes are coming to an end and the prices are even coming back down toward MSRP here in Australia.

THAT SAID, (and noting that I personally have a 5600X) the 3600 is already pretty darn good and you're getting most of that performance anyway. So you'd need to decide whether it's worth spending the minimum of US$300 for the performance difference right now. In times like this it's wise to just enjoy what you've already got.

You are absolutely correct. Why I need to buy 15 items at the same time? I should buy 2-3 items in a shop and others in other shops. Different shops are selling different price. Do my homework before buying the materials. Thank you!

If you can manage to get a GPU at MSRP, it would be a great upgrade. For the cooler I think as long as the CPU is not throttling, don't waste money on it.
Do you think my cooler is great? And I should enjoy my build at this time. Don't waste money to this part?

I was browsing the online shops and found the GPU prices were standing at top or high standard, couldn't see any price drop or down price. At the same time, 2019 of COVID is affecting every countries and the unemployment is great high than before. I should think about it carefully. No one know what will happen in future.

I bought 1660s around USD250. However, I found my GPU's price is highly speed to USD320-USD400. It's crazy and insane.

Cheap? Expensive?

Nah, prices are only down for CPUs only which is why I pointed out the 5600X ($299 is the original MSRP so the price isn't inflated at all). Be street smart though and be wary of buying any super-cheap fakes from China.

But even then your 3600 is still fine, I probably wouldn't upgrade it unless you're able to sell the 3600 to a friend or online to recover some costs. I did that with my Ryzen 3 3100.

GPU stock and price drops are still a pipe dream right now with no end in sight.

There's no point in buying a new cpu if he keeps the 1660, which means that it would be a very costly upgrade path.

As some other pointed, the necessity of an upgrade appear when you "feel" (in fact be almost sure) that your PC isnt not fulfilling your objective NEEDS (not desires:)). Even then, fist should eventually detect the source of "bottlenecking", maybe exist one, and make a partial upgrade not whole PC. Anyway, watching arround, do you think that the rite moment? :))

Thank you your comments. I will think about it.

There's no point in buying a new cpu if he keeps the 1660, which means that it would be a very costly upgrade path.
OK. No need to upgrade.

I'm trying my best to understand or build a communication bridge between you and me. English isn't my mother tongue and I read your comments leading me to a new world. Why? You tried to persuade me I'm a feeling to replace or upgrade my PC. Not a desire, just a feeling and actually you are trying to come in my world. This what I say "build a communication bridge". I need to upgrade because I think my spec isn't enough to play game. I'm also not familiar with the PC. I need some advices and help me make a decision. Could you help?

Oki, I will try my best :) being simple and explicite:

- in this very moment the prices especially for video cards are EXTREMELY high, prohibitive - this imply ->
- IF the u[grade isnt a necessity, outside you have a lot of money to spent you can:
a. either stay with what you have (for free :))
b. either "patch" a little bit your actual system with SOME new components - for example I will add 16 more gigs of ram

IF you upgrade the CPU (to 5600) and also the RAM maybe, probably you will gain a few FPSs in gaming (for a decent amount of money - lets say 250$ - ask yourself IF is worth)
OR
upgrade just the video card (BUT remember todays prices)

IF you will go for a new setup (lets say "best" CPU for gaming (God knows wich is that one, but lets say a 500$ one), a very good motherboard (2-3-500), 32/64 gigs of RAM (lets say 4000MHz 4-800$)), all this will help you just very few (for A LOT of money) IF you will not invest A LOT LOT LOT in an 3080 or 3090 GPU.

Hi,
No way I'd shell out for a gpu atm unless there was a sudden death of an existing but still would have to really think about it
Saw a rx 6800 xt liquid devil for 1540.us but not sure I'd jump on it.
