Should i upgrade?

Hello everyone,

So the question is, should i upgrade without buying a new GPU (as they are not in stock anywhere), or wait to get a pc with a new-ish(whatever can be found) GPU.
I will use my gtx970 until i can find something better.
If i should, then what platform should i choose from?
Primary goal is gaming, ryzen seem really good but kinda expensive on last gen so i guess the better option is intel?
From what i found 10600kf seems to be enough for gaming but i don't want to have the same issue that i had with my 4590 versus 4790k down the road, should i choose a 10850k instead?
I feel like my 4590 is holding the fps back too much in recent years, same 970 gets 50% more fps on some games with a faster cpu(even the 4790k tested on OW and Apex).
Mostly playing FPS games, i will be looking into getting a high refresh monitor regardless of this upgrade.
I just wanted to ask what the opinion of others is.

Games like OW and Apex won't really tax your system, if anything getting 250 FPS instead of 144 won't do anything.

If you want a new GPU, I'd consider looking at good pre-builts. Maybe get something on the bit basic end but still with a good GPU, and then swap out the components such as the pre-built PSU and the case with your own.

What country are you located in, what's your budget and what resolution do you play at?

Honestly, if you can get a 4770k/4790k and keep holding out for a bit longer I'd do that. Save up for a really nice rig when prices go back to normal.

I don't think my Country matters that much, i am in Cyprus so i can shop from most European countries that can get here.
Budget is flexible, i did not set a strict budget as last time, the question is if its worth the extra money for that upgrade or not.
This build is targeting gaming at high FPS so that takes priority, but its not absolute, for example a jump for 5% FPS for 500$ is rather wasteful and not what i am looking for.

Usually those can sit at 4.5-4.7ghz overclocked. I love my two and both can handle around a 1070/1070Ti at most. Bottlenecked my 1080Ti and I'm sure a 1080 would have the same fate.

There's a reason most all boards that have a system builders forum list 'country, budget and resolution' in their format guidelines. It cuts to the chase and keeps these threads from going 3+ pages due to lack of pertinent information from the OP. Not all countries have the same pricing and PC hardware inventory, gaming at 1080P isn't the same with all cpu's and when gaming at 1440P it becomes more gpu dependent.


Seeing how you seem to be all about price to performance here's an example of what you can do. Pair up the 11400F/11400 with a decent aftermarket cpu cooler and turn off the power limiter in the bios. I'll use these boards for an example.

That 11400 seem quite powerful, beating most k variants while being cheaper.
Seems like a good value as well considering any used 4770k/4790k is around ~80$ without shipping and most likely will be looking to sell it after couple of months.

If you want to run that cpu 24/7 with the power limits turned off while not breaking the bank here's a cpu cooler worth considering. It runs $60 here in the US .. not sure what it goes for in Europe with their VAT and whatnot.

Make a partial upgrade (just the CPU) to 4770/90k, and when the mining crazyness is finish and you will upgrade the GPU, upgrade the mobo/CPU/RAM.

I said about multiple CPU tests with WHAT GPU they were made. Because, is very likely that with a medium/low end GPU the results to not be so "gapped" among CPUs.

The last review I posted was done with an Nvidia RTX 3080. Every review I posted states what hardware was used in the testing.

Generally you test CPUs with high end GPU and most likely on 1080p to eliminate GPU bottleneck. While i will currently use a 970 i will be looking into upgrading when i find a good price GPU so these tests are relevant.
