The more data you can afford to have on SSDs,the better. Best case scanarios is using HDDs for a backup copy of your SSDs only. having SSD as boot drive is nice, a restart takes just a few seconds and then you're back to desktop again. But having all your programs, games and data on either one big SSD or a few small ones is just great. Instant and quiet no matter how many thing you're doing at the same time, very appreciated when using a multiple monitor setup. I don't think I was ever able to really see the execution of any application slow down since I moved my software to SSDs and kept HDDs for backup only, no matter how many things I did at the same time. 512+1TB is a very nice setup, and one you should definitely stay on.
For my personal use I'd take a 1TB SSD over a HDD of any size.

I can fill that with 10 games.

I mean, I'd have to pick the biggest ones, but it's possible. And many things since 2014 onwards are at least 25GB. 1TB isn't shit anymore.

No,you can't. I've got 10 games installed on my pc at this point, and 400GB free on my game drives (256+256+512). Plus all games backed up on HDDs, I can remove any one I want and put another in its place in a mattter of minutes. 1TB is plenty.

No,you can't.

Oh, man.. You went with the "you're lying" line? :\

Forza 7 - 100GB
Gears of War 4 100GB range
FFVX - 150GB
GTA V - 70ishGB?

I haven't even listed 5 games. I'm gonna stop here. :)

edit: Wait, maybe I'll list more.

Doom would be another 70ish game.
Any of my modded Skyrim/Fallouts will exceed 50. Fallout at least.

Arkham Knight+DLCs,Prey+DLCs,Quantum Break,ROTR+DLCs,Watch Dogs 2,Division,GR:Wildlands,Far Cry 4, BF1+DLCs,Quake Champios = 450GB
and that's with BF1 being 80, more than twice as big as the rest.

If you think you need to sacrifice having an SSD for a HDD just to put a bunch of oversized games on your computer at the same time then congratulations, you played yourself. That 10TB drive + 32gb optane is $400, what are you gonnna do, play 10TB of games at the same time to prove your point ?

sorry,I forgot witcher 3 with 2 expansions is in that 450GB too.

Why is it "playing myself"? Are you the cop of what should be on random people's storage spaces? I'm happy about it. I'm not playing myself. I just like having it all on demand. Because I can.

Good, but it doesn't make 1TB SSD for games too small.Plus like I said, if you keep your backup on HDD you can swap them instantly.Plus 10 year warranty on all my three 850s, can't beat that.

Well, it's not like I do this for everything. I mentioned earlier that I'm just selective on what gets on the SSD. Prefer some open world titles or often played games on SSD.

I was thinking of possibly selling my old 1TB SSD and perhaps using either a 2TB 7200 HDD or a 2TB SSHD.
My 2 cents; You're fine. My personal setup involves an SSD for boot, programs and games(it's a 960GB) and an HDD for mass storage(2x 10TB). For mass storage, HDD's are far more cost effective and perform well enough to do the job needed of them well. Keep your drives and simply add an HDD if you need some mass storage. 4TB drives can be had for about $60 or less for a quality drive.

I am currently using a 500GB NVME PCIE SSD for my boot drive and I have a 1TB SSD that I use for my games. I have been told that I shouldn't use large SSDs because they aren't as reliable as traditional hard drives because they have a max read / write. I was thinking of possibly selling my old 1TB SSD and perhaps using either a 2TB 7200 HDD or a 2TB SSHD.

Never had any reliability issues with any of the Intel/Crucial SSDs I have owned. Currently still using a pair of 960GB crucial M500's from 2013, and they work just fine. Anyway its true that SSDs have a limit to how much data you can write to them. But you are very unlikely to surpas that limit(and that limit scales with SSD size) . I just checked the stats on my 2 ssds from 2013 and my boot drive have 21TB written, and usenet/gaming/storage drive have 35TB written. And thats with like 8 hours daily usage every day the last 5 years. And they are rated for 72TB total bytes written, so they should have another 5 years in them. So I wouldnt worry about max write limit at all. Basically IMO everyone that can, should be using SSDs for everything. Better performance, less noise/vibration, and should be more reliable that spinning rust. All the spinning rust I have removed from my computers I have put in my NAS and they all report some kind of error/bad blocks, its pretty amazing how pretty much every single one of the old HDDs have some sort of error.
