so i'm curious would i see a benefit in windows performance and overall systems performance if i were to use the velociraptor that i got for free as my os drive?

Well for one, id ask why youd want to use 1TB hdd's as a boot drive?

And yes, the closest thing you can get to an SSD would be a velociraptor hdd. Would speed up your boot time.

i had an ssd that died a while back so i've been using my raid 0 tb drives as a boot drive

depends on which 1tb western digital blacks, the 64mb cache 500GB platter ones are going to be almost as fast as a velociraptor. so in raid 0 they would be much faster than a single velociraptor.

but I'd still put the veliciraptor as the boot drive due to seek time and reliability of a single drive over raid 0.

Yeah id avoid putting storage drives in raid 0.
