No you don't. What you need to do is fix the sleep issue. If this was really a problem with one of the updates, millions and millions of users would be having the same issue. And I see no reports of that sort of thing happening.

Did you check your power options?

This most likely is being caused by a connected device not letting Windows sleep. This can be all sorts of thing - even integrated sound devices have been known to cause such problems. And of course, compatibility of the hardware and their drivers are the responsibility of the hardware makers.

I recommend you start with a simple "cold" reboot. By "cold" I mean to shutdown Windows normally, then unplug the computer from the wall. Disconnect any external USB devices (except keyboard and mouse). Then plug in the computer and boot it up and see what happens.

Thanks, i'll try it tomorrow! Boot boot, booty boot!

Checked those power options earlier yesterday, it didn't make a difference.

But for reasons unknown to me, my monitor now shuts down (after i went to a bar and passed away in a bush), but not the computer. And i have no external devices attached atm. Mysterious things... More red wine and waiting, perhaps?
