Ok heres the problem I have a Hp Pavilion a1610n Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2 GHz with 1GB of RAM I did a fresh format and installed Xp because it had a windows file corrupted so i decided to format. well now it has taken about 8hrs to complete the whole format and install and it was acting really slow after the whole installation. So i decided to reformat and reinstall again and the same thing has happen it also took about 8hrs for the process. I am not sure what could cause this but before the file was corrupted it was working fine.

thanks

I'd download HD Tune and check out your hard drive. I've had dying hard drives that had ridiculously slow transfer speeds. Might also explain the corruption of the file you were talking about.

http://www.hdtune.com/download.html

The free version works fine.

I had a problem yrs ago like his, and it wound up being that the harddrive was in pio mode not udma, and updating the chipset drivers fixed it.

I had done both but they both were slow and when on the desktop it would lag really bad to open windows.

thats not including the "windows up dates" i did try them out the first time but it also took along time.

i am not sure how to set the hard drive to udma but i check on the bios and it did say udma 5 not sure if that how you check.
