Wasnt too sure which section to post this thread on! well it probably happens with everyone, but compared to when i hook my internet directly to my pc, when i connect my pc to my router..and download files or stream files..they take Forever!! i normaly downloaded at 400kb/sec max but when im on a router it goes to about 20kb and struggles..why is this? there usualy is only 1 other person connected to my net..so why so low..it should be at least 200kb..any ideas...its a Linksys

i live in Northern ireland, but mine is like this all the time :\ i mean im with NTL broadband/ Virgin its fine connected directly but when im on my router the speeds are really slow..like it gets divided by 8 ..its not like its wireless because its connected with a wire through the router..so the speeds are all full..

A couple of things to check:

1. Are you using a download manager with multi-part download (I recommend freedownloadmanager)

2. If you are and speed is still very slow, check for known issues with your linksys firmware (pertaining to max number of open sessions through router)

3. Try swapping out any UTP cables

4. Make sure all devices are set to 100meg full duplex ( do not use auto sense)

5. Check your proxy/DNS settings

6. Reflash router firmware.

When you are using the router, you are using two cables.
Make sure both cable are good. If they are causing errors you may be seeing the drop do to it having to resend packets (or something).

Just a thought.

You will have to forward a port on your router.;)
Check the port that the download program uses and forward your router to that port.
