So how long did you get from you last build?

I built a Q9650 on an ASUS P5Qpro MB back in 2008 and just 4 days ago built a new computer seeing that my old one was about to die the HDD was going out it was slow took almost a full 4 min to boot up! But all in all I got 9 years of service out of the system and could get even more as it still works just like I said slower than snail shit.
SO to sum it up I got 9 full years of service from my last build.

Yeah lol I built it in 2008 when the Q9650 first came out.at the time it was a beast! But now it is a relic.

I only upgraded for the benefits of a new platform, rather than CPU speed, when overclocked, the 2500K can still kick ass.

Ram and ssd prices are all price manipulation though.

X58/i7 920 in may 2009. Januar 2017 got a i7 980x and is not in a hurry to replace it. Every thing a round has been replaced one or more times. But im still on x58 and its so far still going strong. So on x58 its 9 years and counting just with another cpu in between.

And its not like i misses features. I have sata 3, usb 3.0, even a m.2 nvme ssd so it i sent even a slow booting peace of crap, 6 cpu cores, windows 10 and a powerfull gpu. What more can i ask for. X58 has what i need for now.

If you are just talking about time between CPU and motherboard upgrades, then 3 years for my main computer. I just upgraded from a 4790K to a 8700K. Before that, it was about 4 years between my 4790K and 875K.

Yeah agreed. New platforms has more features, but do i really need it? No i dont. And x58 is a sollid worker you can count on. It has never failed med. While have had rma on hdd, psu, gpu and so on, but never on x58/cpu and have torture and litterly beaten the crap out of my cpu's.

Before the rebuild:
- case- 2009 (still in use)
- motherboard- 2011- 790 GX> 890X> 990X
- cpu- 2012- PII 720> PII 960T> FX-6200> FX-8150> FX-8350
- gpu- appr 2015 (changed most often)-4830> 4870> 5870> 6870> 7870

Swapping i7 920 out with i7 980X and oc that fucker to over 4.7 ghz stable on air cooling, get m.2 ssd to work on x58 and put a gtx 1080 ti in also and it turns out it works better than i hope for. X58 has just been a pure blast from start to now. Yes x58 has a very special place in my heart

GOT!? GETTING! It is a fantastic card although the fan went out I put a new one on it! Going to run cinabench 15 on it soon. see what this card does on this new platform. Oh and going from DDR2 right to DDR4 RAM is very noticeable! HOLY YES!

My i5 3570k rig went from oct 2013 > jan 2018, and to be fair, I reckon it could have easily kept going for another 2-3 years before becoming too slow for its purpose.
