So I got a 144Hz monitor with Freesync.

It's an "Acer ED242QR A" a 1080p curved monitor with 144hz and Freesync. I was bought it as a gift, it was £149.99.

Plugged in the DP and Freesync was automatically enabled. So I fired up Warframe and...

I can never go back to 60 Hz.

Okay well coming from an Dell u2414H, a beautiful IPS panel of 60Hz but no VRR, i can say that the colours (the vibrant ones like yellows and pinks and greens) are very very nice on this VA monitor. Almost the same. However the blacks and greys lack the depth of the Dell, IE they are "blacker" on the IPS. But that is absolutely not a problem for me they still look great. Viewing angles appear to be the same too. The monitor has slightly got some backlight bleed but it is not bad in my opinion. And the 144hz and freesync just... well. it's night and day WTF have i been doing all this time? haha

Back when I was 100 times more out of control with OCD an anxiety i had tried half a dozen monitors and sent them all back becuase of various reasons and i swore never to replace my trusty u2414h but i think I just did

You can calibrate your monitor moving down the windows default gamma to have a more desired black.
Just execute : colorcpl.exe => advanced => calibrate
Also make sure your screen is set to full colors (0-255) and not limited (16-235) via OSD and maybe the drivers (don't know about AMD, for nVidia you can switch it there)

Just moved to WQHD with Freesync at 75Hz but my RX 480 is having trouble pushing 1440P. FPS usually falls outside the 48-75 Hz sweet spot. Been looking at the RTX 2060 but not sure if it's the card to pick.

You can look at the numbers. I mean, in some games you will have your 75FPS+ but what will it be next year ? You won't need antialiasing at maximum but still.
I don't see any affordable other option by the way. When you look at the RTX 2080 price...well...nope

I am in similar situation with RX580. It pushes OK 1440p but my monitor is a UHD one ( 3,840 by 2,160), so I was looking at solutions to make that work.
The most cost effective solution would be another RX590 in crossfire. RX480 in your case.
I know is not ideal, but selling the cards to buy something much, much more expensive is not that great.

Crossfire is one way to go but I prefer to stick with a single card. Maybe Vega 56?

I moved to QHD 144Hz with FreeSync last month. My AOC AG241QX has a TN panel, and all the monitors I've used before it were also TN.

Unfortunately now my 1070 feels just like my 780 did at 1080p.

RTX 2060 is better than Vega 56

RTX 2060 is minimum $350, but mostly at $380 (like that linked above). And you can't order and get them in less than a month.
Vega 56 can be found for $290-320.
An used RX480 is $120.
Winking doesn't change that.

Yeah once you’ve tasted 144Hz you’ll never want to go back. I’ve had that pleasure since 2012 and run my monitors like that all the time. It even makes a noticeable difference on the desktop.

Turn on the strobing backlight and motion blur disappears, which looks awesome. It does give me headaches though, so I don’t use it so much now.
