xx80 isn't mid-range... it hasn't been for 3 generations. It is literally the second card down the stack of several... it isn't mid-range. Some may want to argue the 3090 is the flagship and that is fine, that still makes it the second card down the stack and not mid-range.
It sounds like you’re arguing with me, yet you said what I just said.:confused:

Devs do not have access to all that 16gb for their games. I think around 3-4gb is reserved for the OS and background processes.

Also these days, I'm not so sure games are exactly developed for consoles first 100% of the time anymore. And ports are kind of a thing of the past now that everything is basically x86 and Windows (PS being an exception to this)
Yes but then Pcmr requires Better than consoles ,and that's going to cost.
Saying console's can only use so and so is meaningless to a PC owner who can often scale a few slider's higher, force crazier options on via hack, or driver and or add shader and or game hacks..10GB, depends how long your keeping it and what your going to do, it's not a easy simple answer as many skewed by their own perspective will say.

It depends.

Number of CU's? As in Compute Unit? That is an AMD term & doesn't apply to Nvidia. Discrimination is also not based on the size nor the speed of the VRAM as it can vary up or down between generations & GPU but based on the overall performance of the GPU. That is determined by the fillrate & FLOPS of the GPU which is calculated by the core clock & number of core configuration.
Ok just add number of cuda core or something that is in characteristic of card with Nvidia GPU. I'm not pretend for perfect description. Core clock different than referent, espetially of graphic cards depending of decisions of assemblators of cards with non referent design...and of decision for additional overclock from card owners.

Ok, I'm, sorry, I know English isn't your main language but I'm having difficulty understanding your sentence. I'll reply again after someone else can elaborate more on your words or after you have re-structured your words & sentence better.

I up this theme because today has owners of RTX 3080 with own home real world experience with it. I hope they to share here results for VRAM size usage. I want to know if there are any discrepancies between the results in the real world and the results published in official reviews.

You simply need to go back and look at the AAA game tests that W1zzard has done in the last year (there are 4 or 5 of them) to see exactly how much VRAM actually gets used. He has tested for that specifically.

Last year has not RTX 3080 10GB but thanks I will search for W1zzard results...

...there is something else that is specifically interesting to me. Tests with such PC games, which rarely, or never, have been tested in official reviews, for various political .... uh, marketing reasons. In addition, it would be interesting to test gameplay, containing not the original game, but various heavy mods with textures with high resolution and high detail of objects. Has people with love to play more than what is offered by the authors of the game. More beautiful and detailed visualization of the characters and the background. A kind of hmm...remastered by consumers/users, not by professionals. And how these "charms" affect the size of VRAM used on RTX 3080 10GB.

PS. I read review of RTX 3090 Strix and see that:

At a higher resolution, VRAM usage goes up
:D

How this affects on RTX 3080 10GB?

Hi,
Yep saw a report on a wretched website 3080 20gb 1k.us in November
Go there at your own add block... risk :p
Code:
https://www.thefpsreview.com/2020/10/14/geforce-rtx-3080-20-gb-to-cost-999-nvidia-reportedly-flooding-gpu-market-in-november-to-wash-away-amd/
Said nvidia going to flood the market before amd release lol

Still think there will be a 12gb version super duper :)

The same as on the 3090.

10gb is fine for even 4k for the next couple of years. People are making a bigger deal about this than it really is I feel.

So many consumers will be fooled by a more is better premise in the coming weeks.
Will see next 3-4 years who is right. Save your promise comment somewhere :)
But you is right after 4 years 3080 10GB will be enough for browser needs, for play movies and casual gaming. AAA games maybe will have RTX 3080 10GB in their minimum system requirements, because of lack of VRAM, not because of GPU performance :p

Here my stand for the subject. Already 3080s 10GB are really close or pass the 1000$ point. Right on the AMD GPU release, nVidia will probably flood the market with 3070s and 3080s 20GB on 1000$ MSRP, and no one will care again for 10GB version.
Mission accomplished
nVidia sells the flagship GPU for 1100~1200$. Again. It was never meant to offer a 700$ flagship that offers 30% more perf from the 1200$ 2080Ti. At that price (700) no one is happy in nVidia, and I doubt they even making a decent profit margin.

Hi,
Yeah with the memory slots available 10gb really makes no sense.
11 maybe 12 makes the most sense but 10gb is stupid come on amd drop it already :)

Almost all in this thread said that 10GBs are ok for today for 4K and the next 1 or 2 years. I thing you are the one to say that don’t.

But you missed the point.
What we trying to tell is that with the next cards they will present that we need more VRAM and will try to make 10GB obsolete. Because they want to sell more expensive. The more higher MSRP a GPU has the more profit margin for them. That’s why 3080 released(?) initially with 10GB and not 11 or 12. It has 1 less than 2080Ti and that was not random. To offer you after that the real card they want to sell.
That is marketing and Jensen is a Mastermind on the subject. Hats off

Hi,
If you fail to notice 4k ultimate settings spec's recommendations then it's your bad lol
But yeah if you can't get the best internet speed all wasted.

10gb i think is fine for 1080p and 1440p but 4k is bit more touchy number. I know some ppl will say "but consoles are 16gb" without the idea that those consoles pushing 4k. That 16gb is SHARED ram so it has to keep the OS, stuff needed for cpu and stuff needed for gpu. If 16gb is enough for a shared system like then 10gb should be good for a bit of dedicated memory cause pc has 16gb for just most system cpu usage.

The only reason I'd get a 3080 20gb is if I was planning on 4k gaming on this card for several years. If my normal life cycle of a gpu is 3 years or so, 10gb will be enough.

And if you're cycle is longer, the 3080 won't be brute enough anyway.

Wrong quote my friend. This words is not mine. Your citation of EarthDog comment with my nickname for author.

Ontopic: How to use 3080 10GB for 3 years livecycle:
1. First year - hot like first love
2. Second year - neutral
3. Third year - I HATE IT :)

So is 10gb enough at 4k ultra settings gaming at least 2-3 years?
Hi,
Actually you'd need to look at each games recommended spec's for those perferances
Not all are the same blanket yes is misleading
Watchdog... says 11gbs at those options plus notice the internet speed too.

Let’s talk a little constructive here...

What happens if a game at 4K at future(1-2years) absolutely need 12~13GB of VRAM. What will happen to a card with 10GB of VRAM?
Won’t that extra data (2~3GB) be transferred to the system’s RAM?
So the 3080 is a PCI-E 4.0 card. Won’t that help with all that data transfer back and forth? I know it’s not the same, but here is one way for PCI-E 4.0 to become relevant.

AMD already supports PCI-E 4.0 and Intel will too in a few months. Yes... more expenses... but who can’t do that when buying a 900$ GPU. Either that or buy the 1000+$ 20GB.
