If you see your CPU rising max temps overtime (in months or years) doesnt mean it needs repaste. You just have to clean the heatsink from dust.

Removing the heatsink and reinstalling it can risk damage to the thin PCB on the current Intel CPUs, because repeatedly adding mounting pressure can bend and warp it.

I use 92%, it seems to evaporate faster and it eliminates the thermal paste residue with less liquid + repeated wipes required compared to the lower strength.

Thanks. I will try to buy the high percentile ones then. After using it for how long should I let the processor to dry out in open air? I am sorry if it sounds dumb but I have never done this and I know that alcohol is flammable, so a bit scared

PS- One more thing, should I use a cotton earbud (you know those johnson ones) or something to dip it in the IPA?

It does not take very long to evaporate. 2 minutes would be more than adequate. 92% evaporates really fast, probably 30 seconds would be adequate. I use a paper towel. I just dampen it, don't drench parts in it. Don't pour it on the part. Just dampen the paper towel and then wipe the piece. Take the paper towel put it on the open end of the bottle, turn it rapidly down then back up so the towel soaks up some iospropyl. Then recap the bottle so it doesn't evaporate.

Its usually a 3 step process: Usually I take a small tear of a paper towel, dampen it with isopropyl, wipe it, then that removes the majority of it, then I take a second tear of paper towel, dampen it, then wipe the part and that gets the rest, then a third tear of paper towel, dampen it to remove any residue, wait a minute, often less, and it appears dry, then its ready for reinstallation.

Bumping up this thread. So I tried to clean the processor underside with the IPA 99% like mentioned above. But no matter how much I rubbed it, those spots would not come off. Then got frustrated and recalled someone said here to clean it with a eraser. So just took an eraser and rubbed on it, and WTF! The spots came off just within few seconds! However, on the parts where I used the eraser are now discoloured Lol. I mean not like burn marks, but like the golden coating has turned into silver coating or something. In any case, I placed it back and running it for past few days. No change in benchmark scores anyway.
