navi won't be as expensive as 2080,it won't be targeting the same performance and features. it'll be a mid-range card with 1070-1080 performance and no RT.

What's the point of Navi then since Vega already achieves 1070-1080 performance with the Vega 56 and 64 respectfully? I am not expecting RTX levels of performance with Navi, but if they are just going to target the 1070-1080 market (a market that they already delivered in), then it seems pointless to wait for Navi.

and sells nowhere near gtx numbers while the production costs are high.

the point is to earn money, not please enthusiasts. amd caters for mid-range gaming, hpc and consoles,if you haven't noticed.

The high price of Vega has nothing to do with production costs, it has to do with depleted stocks- the most desired Vega cards seemingly sell out every week on sites like Newegg and Amazon. It seems like the real issue is that AMD has some serious production problems and they have pretty much failed to meet the high demand. If there weren't stock issues and the cards were readily available, they would be selling around MSRP which is supposed to be $399.99 for Vega 56 and $499.99 for Vega 64. Until AMD fixes its production woes, Navi is going to be hit with the same problem.

So again, it doesn't make a lot of of sense (at least not to me) for Navi to be in the exact same performance range as Vega- unless performance starts at the GTX 1080 level with improved TDP, this would be a giant back step.

but the profit they make out of one has a lot to do with production costs. they can design a mid-range card, sell it at $300 while making the same profit as vega and moving 10x more units.
best thing they can do is maximize sales in mid-range,not get into a performance race with nvidia, cause they'll lose that.

I mean, they let Crypto miners decide the market which was pretty dumb and now the cards in addition to stock issues are inflated. However, there might be hope as over the last 90 days the Vega cards are starting to creep closer and closer to their MSRP. If you manage to get a Vega card at MSRP, it is definitely worth it. I suspect towards the end of the year that prices will start to normalize and possibly even dip below MSRP.

In terms of Navi, I think the worst of the Navi cards will have GTX 1080 like performance, or even surpass a GTX 1080 at the bare minimum. Doesn't make sense for AMD to make Navi their flagship mid range line when their RX line already achieves this.

They already achieve this with the RX 580 which sells below $300 and is the best 1080p card you can pretty much get for that price.

they'll do what they did with polaris, not target 1080 but try to dethrone the most popular 970/980. Same here, they'll go after 1070/1080. It makes sense for them. Enthusiast cards from amd might come very late if ever.

yes but people are not going to buy 580s in 2020,are they ?

nvidia are gonna have gtx 2060 ready soon, what is amd gonna do,compete with 580 ?

Why not? An excellent 1080p card that will be selling for $250? Plus there is that rumor floating around that there is a RX 580 revision that will come at the end of the year. AMD has already won the mid-range market, they now need to focus on the high end market or face becoming completely irrelevant.

cause time goes forward, and so has to go performance if you want to sell.

I don't get why you complain about amd not pushing their cards into rtx 2080 territory while you seem completely fine with staying on 580 in mid range for years.

no,they have not won the mid range market, 1060 outsold polaris like ten times. and if they stay on 570/580 while nvidia pushes 2060/2050 they're gonna lose their most important share of the pc GPUs market.

i'm still happy with my TV although i'd be willing to sell it for $4000 if any ones interested lol only joking.
things have turned out pretty well for my card now the software parameters have become clearer.
i'm looking forward to using the new AA method and getting no performance hit. Its nice to think my card still handily slaps the rtx card around(yeah ok 3-4fps lol), all be it without the new invisible tech not being activated. performance in games like hunt : showdown are amazing. good luck with every ones cards when they arrive... lets hope the community here gets a few nice pieces of OC silicon.:toast:

There have also been some rumors floating around that the reason why Nvidia released their RTX lineup so early is because they were anticipating something big from AMD. Remember at Computex 2018 (which was back in June), Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said that the company would not be releasing a new GPU lineup for a "very long time". There has been some speculation that AMD will be releasing a 7nm Vega gaming chip towards the very end of this year with performance that exceeds GTX 1080ti performance. If they can manage this at an affordable price point (below $550) then they will be able to sell this card like crazy because not many people are going to be buying the RTX cards until we see a pretty big price drop, especially since both new and used GTX cards are selling for so cheap right now.

Here is a pretty great video that actually breaks down that speculation:

Also, it has been heavily rumored that Polaris (RX 500 series) are going to be getting yet another refresh towards the tail end of this year which will boost performance.

If both of these things happen then AMD will remain extremely competitive in the GPU market, if this doesn't happen then they are going to lose out on a lot of market share.

Fanboys always say nvidia is releasing big chips earlier than amd cause amd is gonna have something huge coming up and nvidia is already shitting their pants, turns out they're raking money while amd flops. was that way with fury x after 980ti ("hunting titans") and vega 64 after 1080ti (poor volta, then stupid blind tests with fps counter off). I don't believe amd has got something exceptional coming up for enthusiast gamers anymore until I see it, and I advise you to take the same approach.
YT videos by random people are not news.
