[WTB][US] Socket 1155 Core i5 or i7 Processor

There is a small non-profit in my area that I do a little computer work for whenever needed. Their current computer is an ancient Dell with a 775 Pentium Dual-Core and 2GB of RAM with a WD Green hard drive. The thing is slower than slow.

So I'm building and donating an updated computer with some parts I have laying around(and buying a few new like the an eVGA 80+ unit that I got a killer deal on).

However, I have a Z68 motherboard but only an i3-2120 processor right now. The i3 will definitely be a huge step up from what they currently have. Ideally though, I'd like a quad-core to try to make this computer that much more "future proof" because I know they probably will be using it for years and years(their current computer, I think, is 9+ years old).

So I'd just like to see what you've got. Anything will do, it doesn't have to be a K processor, there will be no overclocking on this. The board supports SandyBridge or IvyBridge processors.

I'm really just looking if there are any really go deals out there, since like I said, I'll be donating this so the cost will be entirely out of pocket for me.

He has an i5 3470 in there that would be a good fit.

It's not much, but I'd be willing to put $10 towards that CPU if you end up picking it up.

This is the CPU Support list. It has a few Xeons on it, but not the ones in t_ski's thread. The 3470 looks promising though...

The 2400 in my current machine is better than the 3470 in most approximations. Quick look at recently sold on ebay shows $40-$50. Better deals might be out there.

Seriously though, for some reason I thought the 3470 was practically a downgrade and the 3570 was much much better.

@jboydgolfer might have a lead to get me a free, or next to free, i5 3570. We are waiting to hear back from the person that offered him the processor.

If that doesn't work out, the 2500 on ebay for $60 is decent, but I'd like to give the cash to a fellow TPUer before sending it off to a stranger on ebay. So I'm going to see if t_ski would come down on his 3470 to $60. If stinger608 and theonedub both are willing to chip in $10 each that is awesome, and I'll cover the rest. I'll probably sell the 3120 to recover some of my costs.

Both already done. The 2130 would be fine, for now, but I know them. What will be better in 8 years, a 2130 or an i5?

The 3470is an i5 chip, not a Xeon. it's on that CPU support list:

@t_ski Barring the non-profit donation angle I would have left well enough alone. 2500K/3770 prices are new chip prices still so I was trying to make a budget suggestion.
