But what is with all the " Lets go GREEN " ? I see no point in it . After all the truly best way to go " Green " would to replace all existing power plants with nuclear power !

I wish I could, free transportation.

People going a little far with the green stuff, it's okay to get a computer that won't use much power. It's okay to get a car with better gas mileage, but building something that will cost in excess of a thousand dollars, and it just gets a little outrageous. The amount of money you'll be saving by choosing to go solar or wind, will be negligible compared to what you'll put out to start.

Indeed. As long as there is no accidents, it is the greenest and cheapest way of producing electricity. All accidents in the past twenty years have been minor and contained.

Until we can come up with a power source that is supper "green" like perpetual motion power plants this "GREEN " stuff is just BS !

Fusion (energy of the stars) is the way forward but it is a tough nut to crack.

come on man every little baby step is towards better tomorrow for our kids. I agree to a certain extent, why build 14 bedroom home when only one damn being lives in it? Why bother building Gas guzzling Hummers and big SUVs? why can't we shrink and fit in a Honda Fit?

Why can't we all be given Work from home? that will save lots of gas and electricity and save money on food too (I can make my own sandwich :rolleyes:

).

Because sometimes (more like all the time) a Fit isn't big enough. I'd love to see a Fit pull a 40' yacht. It would struggle with a 23' speed boat.

That is why then we can't talk about 'Green' if we can't implement. Nobody returns from lunch say within an hour because thats considered a priviledge/freedom, cut it down and see how many stick to that company.

You can't say that productivity goes down just because you are allowed to work from home, deadline is a deadline have to meet whatever it takes, I have worked continuously for 6 months almost daily till 2 am from home and have to report back to work @ 9 am, still we were productive and we met our daily critical deadlines and kept our system alive with minimal downtime.

solar is far to expensive to be practical right now.

wind however is much easier than you think.
I mean think about it what do you know of that when spun generated electricity? An Alternator you say? lol

there are several diy designs for home wind power some as cheap as 200$. as long as you've got the wind in the area it works decently. simply attach a prop to a pully with a belt that also attaches to a car alternator run it to a battery and you've got free stored power. then it's up to you on the usage. you'll need power inverters to power normal appliances.

I cant wait for solar/wind and all that mess to be cheaper. I would love to be able to power just maybe my homes lighting or small appliances. The money I could save would be really nice in the winter.

You got me thinking about green energy now. I found this 4kw vertical wind generator for 20,000 installed and you get 30% of it back in tax breaks.

The funny part is this place is about 45 minutes away.

What i always wanted was a solar powered AC.

They made the most sense.. usually its the hottest when the sun is blazing outside.

Yet i calculated the wattage requirements and the cost yield on the pannels. Unless i make the panels up, i save money just using the AC the normal way.
