I've been looking everywhere to try and find a fix, have posted multiple comments and posts on dell community asking for help and i've gotten nothing. I have an old custom Alienware 17 R5. Recently Ive been having high idling temperatures on my GPU, in the low to mid 50s, GPU fan doesn't start until in the 70s, and when playing it goes to high 80s. I've cleaned the fans and even replaced thermal paste. I updated my MSI afterburner to hope maybe its reading it wrong.

How MSI looks

i dont understand why the graph is doing that.

and as you can see, 88C at only 59% usage

Clean and repaste everything inside that laptop.

go over your work and recheck the screws see if tightened and or re-seat the heatsink

thats what ive done. replacing the paste and cleaning the fans didnt improve anything, so im believing its a software issue. might reset the BIOS later if nothing else works

For that GPU, those are reasonable idle temps and reasonable load temps. You've got to remember, that is a mobile part in a compact laptop. Your cooling is likewise going to be compact and not as effecient as cooling for a desktop part. Your system is doing well, game on!

im not sure. I saw a video yesterday where the guys laptop had a fan that the laptop just would not use, even though it worked fine. he said resetting his BIOS to factory settings fixed it

problem is, it wasnt like that before. these are much higher than it used to be. laptop GPUs shouldnt go above 85, but its going above 85 without much. I may have to just deal with it if its really how its going to be, but im always going to be worried

Bitcoin miner trojan or GPU miner trojan?

Troubleshooting is an arduous undertaking, make a checklist from hardware to software sides. Be sure if your fan is spinning well. Might have stuck fans so it only spins on higher power load due to to not being able to spin on lower power load. From software side, check any running unknown apps, use multiple hardware monitoring apps. Did you practice safe browsing etiquette? Torrent sites, cracked apps, and other shady downloads might give your computer weird infections. GPU miner trojan is a thing, so you might want to check some tips to analyse your computer.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Why not look in windows task manager and see what's active when you get those sustained GPU temp spikes. It looks like you ran a benchmark or something to me...

That said 51C on a laptop gpu at idle doesnt seem high to me....especially if you are hitting 88C at 59% use... the load temps are fine...

Use custom Fan curve from AB and use 30 fps, use AB rtss frame rate limit .
Update your driver and AB
plus lower your temp limit from 92 to say 82.

Not knowing your ambient temp, Im just going to go head and say its summer.. We have an Asus that routinely hits 80s just doing windows updates in 30c ambient disgustingness.
