Sometimes I slip and get stuck in my own wires...

System Name Hi!
OK guys. While this does sound hilarious (and it is), it is actually very concerning. I did it again just a while ago. This time I pulled just my mouse on the floor... Thing is, I get stuck on my own pc wires, slip, almost fall, and, pull things (headphones, mouse, keyboard) along with me to the floor. And now I'm worried can an audio jack break on the inside? Or usb?

System Name Hi!
Yeah you can break the connector on the inside especially if it comes out at an awkward angle. But it should be okay, it still works?
Yes, everything works, USBs etc. I tested the audio connector by slowly turning it in a full circle while listening to music. There are no broken contact points.

Yeah, if you're slipping and getting all tangled up in your wires and taking things with you on the way down... clearly you need to re-evaluate your setup...

Many years ago, I killed my sennheiser HD570 headphone port this way. If you do this a lot, you should just switch to wireless headset, mouse, game controller. I am still running an all wired setup and I am just really careful now so it doesn't happen as often.

My son had a pair of Sennheiser headphone that he spent a bunch on .... he's 6'-4" and when he stood up, head often get whiplash and yank them off his head, finally tearing the wire out. He's a pilot so used to wearing headset on his head for long hours and he just forgets it's there. h he borrowed my Logitech G930 for the 3 weeks it was going to take the Senn's to be repaired (I rarely use) commenting he "didn't know how long he could stand using wireless crap". But a few weeks after the Semnn's came back, he bought another G930 .... we've got two 933's here noe (can't stand the LEDs so they got shut off permanently in Day 1). The G935 is 'released' but not in the channel yet as far as I have seen ... its retail price is a bit high at $165ish but the G33's were $135ish and I grabbed a pair for $105.

I'm in no way disappointed with the 933s, consider than well worth the investment as the are excellent in gaming especially the all important where is that sound coming from thing. Bit headsets are the only thing I do wireless for ... had numerous wireless KBs and mouse over the years and got tired on the batterirs thing and the "lost connection" stuff ... maybe they bettwe these ays but was too annoyed with them to try again.

Do you sit at a desk when playing or are we talking "play station style game play sitting on the floor ? Most desks have a hole on the desk top that ya route the wires thru ... Have you considered a HB drawer ?

yes you can break an audio jack (done it my self the same way)
i use wired head sets though. gave up on wireless ones ages ago.

i strategically tape wires to the underside of the desk so it cant happen any more. but that may not be an option for all

It's possible to cause some damage to the internals but sometimes it's an easy fix.
Done that to my headphone jack in the front panel of my case, after accidentally snatching the cord I then had to push the plugin up a little to get both channels to the phones working. Worked for a little while because I took a small piece of toothpick and wedged it under the plug in the header panel to push the plugin port up but it eventually started acting up again.

Finally took the panel out and looked it over - Took my soldering station and redid all the solder points to the jack, now it works fine without all the extra going on.

Yes and yes. PCB could break or the solder joints where those connectors are connected can fail. USB ports having problems on older, frequently used laptops is a common problem.

Yes, everything works, USBs etc. I tested the audio connector by slowly turning it in a full circle while listening to music. There are no broken contact points.
It would be more that you can wiggle the jack with a plug in it. If it still feels sturdy then nothing broke.

They have something like these:

I wanted to add for the OP, they make extra long cables(USB)/extenders. While not cheap they will help remove the issue of tripping and no batteries to change......
You can then route them around and away from the side you use to move in and out of the desk. Im a lefty so I always go left side out, if this was my issue id route them from the righthand side.

Wireless headphones, wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, wireless network, heck, even wireless display if you REALLY want to.

Actually, the only thing that can't be wireless today is high-wattage power, because ... well, it's too dangerous. (Not because the technology is missing, it's quite old actually!)

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/SteelSeries/Rival_650/
(This one for example was just reviewed, and there's plenty others)

Of course, wireless is more expensive but eh, for someone with an attention problem that gets products destroyed by tripping on wires, the cost is worth it.

Get wireless or re-route cables and use one of those cable organizers, they come in various styles plastic tubes and ones that are cloith based with zippers.

Got me a wireless headphone due to that issue, now I can listen to casts even when I'm in the can.

My wife says girls don't go to the can ... they use that room just to make themselves pretty. Wireless devices are no more expensive than what Im using but I find I gain less than I lose with lost pairings, batteries, lost charges, etc ... I want to see monitors that have a powered USB hub built into the monitor stand and all peripheral devices like KB , mice, headsets, that have a short charging cord that is plugged in there.

Pretty much every DeLL monitor in the last 7 years.

They even have 1 or 2 ports on the side, to make insertion of USB sticks or a phone charging cable easy.

No they don't. I'm talking new hybrid fruit we haven't seen yet, you thinking apples :)

Pretty much everyone has what Dell has, all our monitors have them, none are used. These are the last Dell 3 monitors reviewed by TFTcentral.

Dell UP2718Q - "There are also 4x USB 3.0 ports, 2 located on the back of the screen with the video connections, and 2 on the left hand side "

Dell Alienware AW3418DW - "There are also 4x USB 3.0 ports, 2 located on the back of the screen with the video connections and 2 on the bottom edge."

Dell U2717D - There are also 2x USB 3.0 ports located on the underside of the screen with the video connections and 2x port on the bottom left hand edge of the screen for easy access,

None of them have USB hub built into the monitor ***stand*** let alone one independently powered.

Not on back or on side of the screen as described for all the dell's above ... but built into the structural vertical support arm that holds up the monitor screen:

Picture this 7 port hub model:

https://www.cyberpowersystems.com/product/accessories/cph720p/

Now imagine it in the bottom 4 inches of that vertical rectangular part going up from the flat base sitting on your desk which allows you to adjust screen height. In this manner ...

a) when one wants to temporarily plug in and charge their wireless KB, Mouse, Headphones, cell phones, game controllers, whatever to charge the batteries ... the user don't have to blindly search for the ports . You don't plug them into the "screen", you plug them into the "stand" where you can much more easily see them. For example, when gaming and the headphones start beeping telling you 5 minutes left in battery, your are not interrupting the game play swiveling the screen to find the ports on back of the screen.

b) You don't have the issue of having the battery charging load, blow the USB header. Have had systems brought in where folks over loaded the on board USB and I even blew out the USB header on my lappie once by plugging in a laptop cooler.

I have a 7 port model like the one linked above, held upright against my monitor's vertical support with a rubber band. It's independently powered so no worries about how much load is put on it. It's also more convenient. Having ya monitor GFX card and power cables on the back is cool as it's a 1 time thing , twisting and turning the monitor to get the cables in .... but for wireless KBs, mice, headphones, phones, game controllers, ... whatever, fiddling around back is a cumbersome task.

Ideally it would be modular "plug in" thing so if it died could be easily replaced.

Ah, ***stand***.
Well, these old eyes have skipped the "stand" part.

No, don't remember any monitor with USB ports in the stand.... because stands are in most cases NOT CONNECTED...

Why doesn't it exist ?
Probably because nobody needs it.

I love my ASUS PG348Q. Three solid metal legs. With space below them. I can route half of Europe's electrical grid under there... (And also an USB hub if needed)

Until GFX cards get a bit more horsepower and prices come down on the 4k panels from AuOptronics, I don't see 2160p as quite "ready for prime time" at 100+ fps. Hopefully that will be here before 2020. But right now, to my eyes, the best gaming experience is at 1440p w/ either the Acer XB271HU or Asus PG279Q. It's been reported that Asus has switched panels tho and now is using an 8 bit panel instead of the 8+2 Acer uses and the Asus used to use. They typically have been running around $600 and go up and down based on demand spikes... right now the Acer is $600 and the Asus $700

i stuggle to do 1920x1200 at 75hz lol. No idea how people can do massive resolutions at 100+ (having said that if i see 74fps on my osd. well that warrants 4 hours of investigating why.

neither of those are speed demons I would't even recommend that cpu for office duty
