Sonarworks SoundID Reference, Speaker/Headphone Calibration Software

Anyone use this? I have downloaded the trial version which is 21 days and am using it with Sony MDR-XB550AP headphones, it's pretty good tbf, the clarity after calibration even using onboard sound is night and day, it is supposed to calibrate your headphones or speakers to pretty much original studio quality of whatever you're listening to, and honestly when I toggle the calibration off, the sound is so muddy and distorted, though for a home consumer who doesn't create music and just wants to get a good sound of headphones, the $99 price is a bit steep even though I 100% prefer the calibration to the raw headphone sound, anyone else used it? thoughts? can you achieve a similar or same outcome by creating a custom EQ for instance?
