Sony has agreed to extend the warranties on certain models to allow for in-warranty repairs of the optical block (light engine).

    The models involved are: KDS-R60XBR2, KDS-R70XBR2, KDS-50A2000/2020/3000, KDS-55A2000/2020/3000, KDS-60A2000/2020/3000, and KDS-70Q006

There are several links to settlement documents on the Sony web site here.

If you registered your product with an email address, you should have gotten an email.

I have KDS-50A2000. The light engine died just over 1 year after my purchase. I had an extended warranty that was pretty expensive. It covered the repair.

The settlement however provides for a refund of the cost of your extended warranty if it was purchased after 10/1/2008.

This might be something to post in the news section but I don't have access.

edit: You are also covered if you received the tv as a gift. You don't have to be the purchaser to qualify for the settlement.

Damn, was hoping this would mean I could get my KDL-52W3000 fixed.
