No troll here my buddy seriously had over $400 USD worth of shit charged on his card on the 18th onward.

On the 28th he got a call from DSW shoe warehouse inquiring about his multiple orders to different locations, that's when he found out.
They apparently payed for some magic jack service and some body building bs too also someone has been trying to login to his steam he's been getting emails about it since the 23rd.

Unless someone unknowingly hacked steam newegg or xbox live which is all he ever uses his bank card for it seems to coincidental.

ARRRGGHHHHH!

Yes, what I just did was annoying. You are suggesting that the government, guilty of more security flaws than any corporation I know (definitely in the US and pretty much everywhere else on the planet), take over and rule over an independent company. Can I buy weed from your hook-up? Apparently that stuff is so strong I would have to worry.

All flaming aside, yes Sony is guilty of not securing the data properly. They are guilty of screwing over their customer base so hard that it's a running gag in the circles that I travel in. What they aren't is subject to some bureaucrat's whims and stupid rules. The people who become politicians can hardly decide upon who needs to apply jurisdiction to any number of cases.

I hate Sony. I will not hide that fact. I believe they are stupid on so many levels that it is hard to see them existing in 10 years. What you are suggesting is that the one body with less inteligence and more corruption oversee them... What????

Within reason, we all hate DRM. Getting the government involved will only exascerbate the situation. Yes, Sony needs better security. No, the government shouldn't be allowed to touch this. If people hurt Sony's bottom line then Sony will change. Nothing like money to get a company motivated.

Allegedly we are the government, or at least they represent our interests. ;)

I was thinking more along the lines of drawing up legislation rather than actual government participation, and when I say legislation I mean clearly defined rights for me and big, fat fines for companies that spread my bank details round the web.

Anyone that compares PSN to Steam is severely uninformed. People complain when Steam is down for sure, but it also never happens like this. Steam never get's compromised like this and I'm pretty certain it doesn't store ANY CC information. The only times I've seen Steam down were either very briefly (like an afternoon) or that one time they were down for a day and a half because their login servers got hit by a tornado or some shit. Even then, it was only people with 0:1:xxxx Steam ID's. PSN on the other hand is up and down and randomly boots you left and right, and now has possibly cost millions of people their financial security. Comparing the 2 is nothing short of ignorant.

I wouldn't say that's ignorance, they are both online gaming services with millions of users, just because one goes down for a long period of time doesn't mean they can't be compared. They are both vulnerable to serve attacks if someone wants to try hard enough, Steam just hasn't been hit as hard. And i do believe Steam does store a bit of CC information though, as when ever i go and purchase something my card info is displayed with it's automatically, though it probably only seen within each account, as opposed to having a large database with everyone card information sitting on it.

Then why is it when I go to purchase a game off steam, it already has my CC information ready to go?

But some people forget to clear things from there broswer and then you goto the site to pay for something and your details are already there, It happened to me 2 months ago when trying to topup my wow account. Not all sites store cc info but a browser can keep that info stored.

Don't get me wrong tho as i don't use steam so there is a good chance it will keep cc info.

Steam stores your CC info. I've purchased many things from many different computers while only entering my CC info once.

I assumed from the 30 days of free crap that you have to start paying for PSN.

No. PSN is free. PSN Plus you pay for, but it isn't required for online play.

Ah crap.

I knew PSN was free before was hoping that the PSN Plus thing was new and was similar to Xbox Live Gold.

I already had PSN+ what will the welcome back crap give me . . . . . . . . nothing?
whats the free content they talk about.

thanks sony.

the problem is if you don't use psn plus already and your not used to it, after that 30 days you have to keep paying for it or you lose everything you have downloaded with it.

I personally feel as though this is all a scam done by Sony.

I believe this was intentionally done by them as an excuse to further their marketing agenda and possible get people to pay for PSN now and in the near future.

Despite how you look it at it, whether this legitimately occurred or falsely occurred the bottom line is this shouldn't have happened.

I am no longer gaming on the console. It has become the biggest drain on peoples wallet for crappy quality games and services since the 6th generation consoles.

They charge $60 for games that you can only use on one system, they charge you on top of your ISP for online access to their "networks" when access to the WWW if free (And then their networks apparently are not even secure). I don't pay PSX-Scene to use their website, I don't pay TPU either... I don't pay steam for voice/group chat or pay steam to play my games online.

I will no longer buy console games twice so I can enjoy them on the PC and then play them with my console friends. I will no longer be bamboozled, lied too and forced to buy a console to play a temporary exclusive.

No sir...

so not only is PSN down but sony's pc gaming servers are down now also due to the intrusion, they probably had the same fail security as PSN.

www.soe.com/sonyonline/

its not console games fault, its sony's and those bag of douche hackers that did this(If there were any in the first place)

We are today advising you that the personal information you provided us in connection with your SOE account may have been stolen in a cyber-attack. Stolen information includes, to the extent you provided it to us, the following: name, address (city, state, zip, country), email address, gender, birthdate, phone number, login name and hashed password.

Customers outside the United States should be advised that we further discovered evidence that information from an outdated database from 2007 containing approximately 12,700 non-US customer credit or debit card numbers and expiration dates (but not credit card security codes) and about 10,700 direct debit records listing bank account numbers of certain customers in Germany, Austria, Netherlands and Spain may have also been obtained. We will be notifying each of those customers promptly.

There is no evidence that our main credit card database was compromised. It is in a completely separate and secured environment.

We had previously believed that SOE customer data had not been obtained in the cyber-attacks on the company, but on May 1st we concluded that SOE account information may have been stolen and we are notifying you as soon as possible.

Dude, if they have access to your CC number and all of your information like full name and address they can cause a lot more damage than $5!

This is really serious :(

If it's a credit card, you cant be held responsible for more than 50 dollars (in the US.) Otherwise, you're in danger.
