For those who are going to buy a PlayStation 5 and currently have a PS4 with PSVR, you'll need an adapter for the camera and Sony will provide it free but you have to request it:

Request your PlayStation Camera adaptor
To set up your PS VR with your PS5 console, you’ll need your PlayStation®Camera* for PS4™ and a PlayStation®Camera adaptor.
Click here to find out more about the PlayStation®Camera adaptor.

How to request your adaptor
Enter the serial number from your PlayStation®VR in the field below to see if you are eligible. You will then be prompted to provide your shipping address. *

PSVR processor image indicating the serial number sticker
Enter your PS VR serial number, found on the rear of the Processor Unit, excluding any dashes or spaces.
Edit:

I have to believe that this is a two part process whereby Sony will ask for some proof of purchase of the PS5 before sending it but we will see,....

Yeah, I can't wait to see how much better the current PSVR is with the PS5. I was really hoping that sony would have had PSVR 2 ready at launch, but just lunching PS5 was probably enough.

Well I think Sony made it clear that while the PSVR2 was on the short list of things to do, it wouldn't premiere with the PS5. The good news was support for the current PSVR on the upcoming PS5.

Realistically, I wouldn't expect performance any better then the current PSVR with the current PS4 Pro. Certainly an upgrade for those with a standard PS4 but not likely for those with a PS4 Pro.

Any substantive improvements will almost certainly require a new VR HMD.

Yeah, I figure the major upgrade to PSVR using PS5 will be load times. I hear the load times are pretty long on PS4/pro consoles.

I'm leaning towards VR on PS5 just because I imagine the bang for buck will be better and there is no way I can ever afford a Valve Index setup, no room for one thing. PS5 is a ten year buy for me, so I intend to get one no matter what. Sony exclusives are just too good.

I really think that the PSVR 2 will be the gold standard for VR and they will have great content. I think Quest 2 will still be the best overall affordable option. The PSVR 2 should be a big leap from PSVR. I don't know if you have been keeping up with all of the patents sony has been buying but it should be wireless with index like controllers. Imagine if it is like Quest 2 and is standalone and can connect to the PS5 wirelessly. It could be called the PSPVR. lol

Excellent idea,....

If the were to do that and price the PSPVR right I don't see how I could pass-up on it.

Edit:

Aww damn,....

Apparently the PSVR2 won't be released in 2021 or 2022.

There is also no info on any PS5 native VR titles and older PS4 versions of titles will have to be played in backward comparability mode in order to work with the PSVR.

I honestly think it might be announced by mid 21 or around September-October. If they plan for 2023 we will be in Oculus Quest 3 or 4 territory with a newer Index and a big possibility Apple will have shown what they have been working on. I saw what you saw and it's just tricky wording to not lose focus of the PS5 launch. Trust me the PS5 launch is key for any PSVR 2 announcement. If everything is smooth and they sell a ton of PS5 then we should see it much sooner.

I don't know.. 2023 seems like it's too far off. There are already rumors of the Reverb G2 will work with the new Xbox. Sources have already seen VR references in new Xbox configuration files. They are saying Microsoft my swoop in and steal Sony's thunder and bring VR to the masses with its new Xbox. I don't have anything to back this up as they are rumors but I did see these rumors. It would be funny if this happens.

Also, everyone is just waiting for Apple to announce it's AR or VR Glasses. Last year and this year they bought a lot of AR and VR companies and the big word is they are working on something. It's all hearsay atm.

EDIT: I put PS5.. lol I meant Xbox configuration file.

regardless, I am glad I waited on VR overall, the next gen consoles are going to heat things up to win over the masses as you say, lots of money to be made if they can perfect it, and then the big boy's on PC response... :D it's a golden age of gaming. Imagine if AMD had went bankrupt... we would be stuck forever with intel quad core's and nvidia 5% bumps... lol and ps4 pro v2.... no way nvidia would have ever come down in price

honestly Lisa Su single handedly saved the future of gaming. not saying anyone should buy AMD, but competition is great for everyone.

About ~5min in they start talking about Sony Playstation 5 and PSVR. There are some concerning issues like the lag time we were discussing above with respect to not seeing the PSVR2 until 2023.

The PS5 has better load times then the PS4 Pro though, in some cases up to 2x the speed. There are also no native PS5 PSVR games.

I half wish that Sony would simply allow bring your own VR HMD support on the PS5 which is sort of what I was suggesting Microsoft would do, although, in that case I was suggesting Windows Mixed Reality support for the XBox platform.

I don't believe Sony would ever let other VR HMDs on PS5, but I do believe they will put out a PSVR2 or whatever's next before 2023. Now, talking about Xbox, someone has already saw references to the Reverb G2 in some configuration files on the Xbox Series X. I really think they are going to announce VR soon with the G2, but only the G2 starting out. I feel like Valve an MS have something going on and it's VR realated. Gabe has already said the new xbox is better than the PS5 in an interview.

Outstanding,...

It was a little odd to me that during the request process at no time did they require proof of purchase of a PS5. They only seem to require a serial number off the PSVR processor box.

This is why I ordered my camera adapter in advance of purchasing the PS5. Not from a lack of trying mind you. I tried to purchase the PS5 but haven't been successful finalizing the purchase. I had it in my online cart many times but just wasn't fast enough to complete the order.

BTW, I'll also point out the if you have Playstation Plus, Sony has released the first free game for PS5 via PS+. So you can start building that PS5 game library now.

LOL,...Now!!!
