Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) dropped the hammer on Cyberpunk 2077 earlier this week, by withdrawing the game from the PlayStation Store, and offering full refunds to anyone who wants it. It appears like the move affects Cyberpunk 2077 availability for all PlayStation gamers, and not just those on older-generation consoles such as the PlayStation 4. "SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store. SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice," reads the company's statement.

To seek a refund, simply log in to the refund claims page with your PlayStation ID. Once SIE verifies that you purchased your copy of Cyberpunk 2077 via the PlayStation Store, you have the option to request a full refund, which removes the game from your library, and processes a refund to your original mode of payment. The move follows a massive backlash on social media by console gamers—particularly those on older-gen consoles such as PS4 and Xbox One; claiming that the game has glaring bugs and doesn't look nearly as good as shown in its trailers. CD Projekt Red admitted that it didn't show gamers how Cyberpunk 2077 plays on older consoles; and offered full refunds.

Wonder how MS will handle this debacle, apparently it was easier to get a refund from them if you bought the game on Xbox than if you bought the game on PS4.

Sony did the right thing in my opinion, the game should've never been released for consoles in the state it did

I play it on the PC, haven't seen any bugs, but i wish the game had a option to switch to 3rd person. Character customization is worthless if you can barely see your damn character. I only paid 49.99 for it, not 60, using the 10 dollar off epic games coupon.

Nah, it's pretty bad.

The big reason for the pull as I understand it is bad performance and graphics on the PS4, which isn't a problem on PC or even PS5.

Sounds to me like this game shouldn't have been released on last generation consoles and kept to the next generation where the game would actually run. Yes, it would have resulted in less profits but now look at them. They've got egg on their faces and that's worse than less profits.

Think back to previous titles that were made on both the new and old console. Mercenaries 2 was particularly bad on PS2.

No, it is a problem on PC. It looks ugly compared to the power it takes. Even without RT. And the character-animations, the faces... They are a joke considering this is a story focused singleplayer game. Not to mention vehicle handling...

I have a friend that has an RTX 3080 and he says that the game is fantastic. Lucky son of a bitch that friend is. I can't find a 3080 to save my life.

I play this on PC, and so far it's fantastic, looks unbelievable and just needs a little tweaking to get good framerates, too many people set it to "high" or "ultra" and put no thought into the performance hit vs aesthetics. I used a mod to get better memory/Ryzen utilisation but no doubt CDPR will optimise and correct these bugs eventually.
EDIT: I played witcher, witcher 2 and witcher 3 at launch. Witcher 2 was an absolute dog to run and I had bleeding edge hardware at the time, Witcher 3 was super buggy at launch.

Personally, I was really hyped for the game, but I'm old enough to know not to expect something impossible.

For those playing on PC experiencing bad performance, come on, you're on a hardware tweaking website, learn to tweak settings to suit your hardware.

That might be true, but that isn't the same thing. There's a big difference between "not as pretty as it should be" and "unplayable mess".

It's not that people were expecting the impossible, features demonstrated in the trailers were pulled. The demonstrated a mission where your decisions can have an impact but players on the CP reddit did the math and 98% of player choices have zero impact. They touted a dynamic weather system including acid rain and sandstorms. Nope, you get rain and a single scripted sandstorm.

I've got 38 hours into the game and it's definitely still good but CP Project Red hid the bugs before launch and didn't disclose just how many features that were either advertised or shown got cut.

The worst part is the skeleton for these features are in the game. There's a mass transit system in the game but it's not functional. It seems to me the suits made a decision to push the game out. This game has the best world design I've ever seen. Had they delayed the game it could have lived up to the hype.

I only hope that CP Project red not only fixes the bugs but adds back in many of the cut features.

Saw this coming tbh. Really a bad look to CDPR but yeah I'm not gonna defend them on this one. I'm afraid that things may not change by much even later on seeing it's hardware limitations in place and there's so much you can do to make things work out in a next-gen game like this.

Never seen anything like this before during my 20 years gaming. I've seen games being pulled from some storefronts(like Arkham Knight was from Steam), but it has always been done by the publisher after facing public backlash rather than by the storefront itself as in this case. It's insane to witness just how quickly this company went from being the darling of the gaming industry to... well, this.

IMO one of their biggest mistake came from the delays. They kept pushing themselves into a corner by announcing a new release date so quickly every single time the delays were announced without, at least in hindsight as an outside viewer, fully taking into consideration the state of the game and the amount of additional time that would be needed to properly polish it up. They got too impatient/greedy by wanting to force the release date into the holiday season at all costs and that decision came back to bite them hard in the ass.

I'm sure they'll patch things up as they did with W3 but their reputation from here on out will likely never be the same.

This bit echoes my sentiments exactly.

I didn't actually see the info that the train/acid rain/sandstorms were actually coming.
Strange that the questing system doesn't give many divergent paths, that is disappointing. I'll pretend it does and maybe they'll update it when I go for my second play-through.

It is certainly a steaming pile of bugs and broken promises on consoles - but I don't really care about that personally.

I have faith in CDPR, as it stands the game is amazing for what it is - the hype just didn't do it any favours from a player expectations perspective.

Sometimes I wonder if we have to blame the gamer or the company behind the game. I'm thinking the gamer if you ask me.

People are just stupid to lay all these expectations on CDPR. People made this a far bigger deal because it happened to the holy, infallible CDPR. If that is what you think of them, you shouldn't be allowed to spend $60 yet.

I uninstalled it. There are too many things that irritates me gameplay wise. I will check it out again, after the second major patch in February.

There were rumors back then to say that the 2 delays are mainly due to optimization for the last gen consoles. So no surprises here. If you think about it, I feel the developers did what they could for the older consoles. Its not pretty, but that is a fact. Its very clear that the last gen consoles are struggling due to the very slow Jaguar cores in them. The game performance gets hammered when you have a PC with lesser cores, so you can imagine having to use 8 cores that run slower than the Intel Celeron Silver. I am not sure if further optimization will yield any significant improvements. Its like running Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch, where you have to make a lot of graphical sacrifices to get it to run. And unfortunately, performance will still go sub 30 FPS from time to time.

While people may not be happy, but I certainly agree with you. The developers should have put their foot down and limit the game to the new consoles. There is no point in releasing a game that does not look good, buggy and with poor performance. Especially when this game is first person and fast moving. Even with the game released on the last gen consoles, they still have an angry mob, so might as well not release it in the first place.

I don't really get it, the X1 versions is even worse (not that it matters much). So why is this one being taken down ?

Even with the game released on the last gen consoles, they still have an angry mob, so might as well not release it in the first place.

The game has been in active development since 2015 and was scheduled for release in 2019 before PS5/XBSX released. No one made CDPR advertise and release a PS4/XB1 version, it was a decision they made, likely because they needed the huge PS4/XB1 market (over 150 million units) to make the game economically viable. Furthermore, the XBSX and PS5 versions are just the PS4 Pro and XB1X versions running in compatibility mode, so if they cut the base console versions they would only have the PC version left for 2020 release.

This is mismanagement by CPDR pure and simple. They've let themselves move the performance target beyond what the base models can support without a clear plan of how they would resolve that before release. Development 101 is that it is much easier to target the lowest performance baseline and add graphical upgrades for those platforms that can support, than it is to target the higher performance baselines and cut down graphical demand for lower performing platforms. Yet it seems CDPR got fixated on PC even though from day one it was planned to be a PS4/XB1/PC release. Nothing about the game is impossible on the base models, games like Ghost of Tsushima on PS4 show what the base consoles can do.
