Sony Electronics announced today the latest in Hi-Resolution headphones, the MDR-1AM2. Building from the acclaimed MDR-1A headphones that launched in 2014, the MDR-1AM2 brings a host of new and improved features to take the premium headphones industry by storm. Sony has built on its already established high quality listening experiences, and improved its sound even further.

"At Sony, we are committed to bringing high quality sound to consumers," said Dunja LaRosa, Director, and Head of Mobile Audio Business, Home Entertainment and Sound at Sony Electronics, North America. "Reviving Sony's classic headphones, the MDR-1AM2 is a testament to this commitment, playing back music as the artist intended and delivering consumers the ability to enjoy high quality music, regardless of their location."

Sony's renowned sound quality
If you don't want to compromise on sound quality, these headphones were made for you. Extending their Hi-Res credentials even further, they are compatible with up to 100 kHz frequencies playback, and have a newly developed 40mm HD driver unit so you can enjoy full-bandwidth sound. The aluminum-coated liquid crystal polymer diaphragms support every fine distinction with perfect reproduction. The 1AM2s feature a Fibonacci patterned grill to support ultra-high frequency ranges as well as silver-coated OFC (oxygen free copper) for less transmission signal loss.

This pair of headphones has learned from Sony's Signature Series headphones, the MDR-Z1R, and follows the same sound direction and quality. And like the MDR-Z1R, the MDR-1AM2 headphones come with a standard cable as well as a 4.4mm balanced connection for even greater sound and improved usability.

Comfort is key
The headphones are lighter than their previous model - a great advantage whether you are wearing them at home or on the go. With this pair you can enjoy wearing your around-ear headphones for longer, with ear pads that have been specially designed for lasting comfort. The luxurious, comfortable synthetic leather ear pads are made of low-resilience polyurethane foam.

The MDR-1AM2 will be priced at $299.99 MSRP and available in Spring 2018.

This should go nicely with the AE-5 at 32bit and 96kHz. Too bad the price wouldn't he hehe he...

Anyone has experience with these soft leather ear pads? Are they comfy for long term usage?

I have the Sony Z7 and it seems like they use a similar leather / pleather ear pad and I will say they're quite comfortable for marathon gaming sessions even while wearing glasses. (If it indeed is similar to the Z7.)
