Sony will pay estimated $800 for the PlayStation3

Merrill Lynch, a well-known financial analyst/advisor company, estimates (.pdf) the production cost of the upcoming PlayStation3 console to be about $800 US. It's unknown, at this time, what price gamers will have to pay to own a PlayStation3 when it becomes available, but $800 is more than the estimated cost to Microsoft of an Xbox360. So the PS3 might have Sony losing more money, initially, on the sale of their console than Microsoft currently is with the Xbox360.

Sony will probably make so much money from licensing and selling games as well as profitting from selling the consoles in a couple of years, but it does look like quite a large initial loss...

You have no idea what you are talking about, in any topic , on this forum.

yeah from the hardware end it looks like the ps3 will lose money. but then again thats where sony made the most amount of money - the software licences. @$300 the ps2 made roughly $70. when they dropped the price it was the second revision and they made $50 off it. now that they went to the smaller one costs again dopped and sony is making like $50 each. with the ps3 unless they can crack production costs they will lose money. lets hope theres enough final fantasy fans left to bring the console to life!

I myself, have stopped with consoles...I prefer a powerful PC these days over any console. The only consoles that i even think about are the portables. I think those are worth it since you never know when there will be a power outage.

The reason it is going to cost soo much is due to the DVD format they are going with. I blanked out and cant remember what it was called, but it is very expensive, opposed to the HD version that Microsoft used for XBOX 360.

its blu-ray. that format is either going to make or break the console. these days it isnt really how much data you can pack on a disk(there will be objectors) but how well that data will hold up after in home use and abuse. after all back in the cd-rom days a toddler could grab a cd and play frisbie with it in sand and it would play just fine once cleaned. these days if you have a smudge on a hd-dvd or a blu-ray disc it wont play and is most likly garbage. this is only going to lead to more backing up of games and most likly more piracy. so who knows anymore. one thing however is going to be certian - its gonna be one hell of a fight between sony and ms.

hey ya friggin idiot. dont you realise that when moving from shitty ole windows to a hardware based OS performance and double or triple? or maby its the fact that a xbox is a more sound rig then your comp. also since its a proprietary design there is no bus bottlenecks and the 256mb (i think) of vram is in direct connection with the cpu and system memory. there is no pci-e16x its more like pci-e64x as far as link speeds go. you cant tell me that a single core with multiple programable cores will be slower then todays fastest gaming computer. not to mention for a fraction of the price. plain and simple you dont know what you are talking about. oh and i forgot theres no such thing as dx9 or opengl on consoles. theres also no sm3. its all programable by the code run.

oh and btw i would really like to see a regular computer decode 20 1080i dvds at once while maintaining constant 27.999fps. lemme know if you need w1zz to personally remove your account and ban your ip. have a nice day

Sorry to tell you but my pc can handle over 100 dvd videos at once at 2060x1500.

my computer is more powerful than playstation 3 sorry to tell you.

x1800xtpe simply destroys a 7800 gtx 512 mb in alot of games and the 7800 gtx 512 mb destroys RSX in ps3.

PS3 owns any computer out except major major server computers. If you feel like yellin and grabin your nuts sayin my computer is god with ur hand held high in a fist go ahead as you bob your head up and down :rockout: . First off read the over 20 pages on the processor like i did before you start sayin stuff. Secondly the overall speed at which everything operates will kill the FSB of any computer. As far as graphics go meh its a console and they were plannin on having it come out last christmass.

Now that i got that out of my system id like to see your PS3 and how u are compairing it to your tower pc. Cause i mean its easy to say things i could say I AM GOD but then again i dont have proof. :D

Here is the link for the processor its not that crap you find on gaming sites its the actual specs and how it works written by IBM who are making the chip:
http://www.blachford.info/computer/Cell/Cell0_v2.html

Now dont get me mad or i will actually have to post more info to prove u wrong.

Also a note playing DVDs and decoding them is different lol.

Liking this - an arguement over an unreleased console that nobody on these forums really knows how good it will actually be... specs can be misleading. AMD and Intel processors are a major example of this.

Ok people, I am starting to get very tired of this. I am sick and tired of seeing people bashing each other on these forums. It's ridiculous... you're just as bad as the original fanboy when you start bashing like this.

Who cares, someone thinks Sony sucks, OMG it's not the end of the world. Suck it up and live with it. Ignore them, and if they persist, tell a Mod or Admin. Nothing wrong with disagreeing, but you don't have to bash as well. I've already talked to certain people on these forums, and no one yet has been put on temporary banned, but that does not mean it wont happen.

I hate having talk like this, but there's a point where I have too. Some of you are just pushing me closer and closer.
