well my sound card went kaput last night so now im looking for a new one

i only have $175 to spend maximum

for me music quality comes before game quality (haven't been gaming to much lately)

i want to try and avoid x-fi, mainly because of how much of a pain in the ass it was to get my mic working properly

i have a nice system that is being wasted on on-board audio, please help guys it's killing me

Thats a pretty good choice. Its what i currently use with my z-5500's and its been working great. Should be around ~100 or less.

^I've used a Prelude for well over 5 months, it's been the perfect balance of gaming and music. It's the closest to the X-Meridian, but in some situations the X-Fi Crystalizer gives it the edge.

It also comes with an optical cable which just makes it that much nicer.

the prelude caught my attention

can anyone tell me how the drivers are for both the HT omega and the prelude?

On vista AuzenTech drivers seem to work great on all levels so i assume the preludes drivers should be pretty extensive.

You'll have to give us more information than that.
What speaker system do you have, 2.1 or 5.1? PC speakers or hi-fi system with receiver and will they be connected using a analogue connection or digital connections?
What name and model are these speakers? are you at all concerned with surround sound and what is your perception of "quality".

If you are using the Logitech Z-5500 your best alternative is to purchase a card capable of DTS/Dolby 5.1 real time encoding. Either Auzentech's or Asus's products is most suitable. (Bear in mind you must use either the Coaxial cable or Fibre for these features)

HTOmega uses C-Media CMI8788, their drivers are the best. Even your grandkids will be able to dig that card out of the basement decades later, and be able to find drivers to use it.

Auzen, well, it's Creative sourced, but with some feature-sets specific to it. CMSS-3D won't work under Vista64.

I have the HT Omega Striker 7.1 currently. It is the best by far sound card I've personaly owned. It has full support for Vista. I have mine running with Vista right now with zero problems. Would highly recomend it :toast:
