Just wondering if the latest Nvidia drivers are bugged still for 1080 Ti owners. I just got space invaders artifacts while browsing the web that crashed my computer shortly after updating to the latest driver (clean install as always). They are gone when I restart but I've now reverted to older drivers again.

Could be driver, as well could be GPU that is possible just under some load circumstances to artefact.

VRAM is probably on its way out, let hope it doesn't...

Guess we'll know in a week or so time. If it is a hardware issues, it should manifest once more in a two week period. Otherwise it was a driver issue.

I have had video cards with failing memory before and most of the time when you get the artifacting you are immediately SOL as one of the memory chips has gone bad. I suspect that if it is something slow, as in your card slowly becomes more unstable, that would be memory voltage related and not a mem chip full blow bad. That can be remedied by lower voltage.

It was very odd to see this particular artifacting though, I thought it was limited to 2000 series cards and newer.

Had this problem with an R9 290, gave it to my brother and he updated to a bugged driver that kept the fan speed at 20%. When it started failing it would show pink grid every now and then and it got worse over the span of a month until it died completely.
My take is that the Capacitors start failing due to high temperature, gradually the chip is not getting clean power and you have to lower the clocks, it's only delaying the inevitable though.

To try and troubleshoot if it's the driver or hardware causing it, using the same older driver you're on now, run a stress test or two on it and see how it goes. I suggest Unigene and one other. I specifically don't recommend Furmark in this instance since that puts so much stress on it, that a borderline card might fail completely, even with driver throttling. It's better to limp along with it until you can get a replacement. At least you've got a picture.

I only buy high end cards with strong coolers, so when I first use them, I run Furmark for a few minutes, to check that I don't have a duff card. I never run it for an extended period of time, though.

Hi,
Latest driver is hardly ever best.

I'be been using the latest driver with my 1080Ti and no issues at all. In fact it's very smooth currently in the vast majority of games.Which browser do you use? , I'm on Firefox and have had no issues.

I agree - Space Invaders was never intended to run at high resolution. :D

Seriously, it does sound like a VRAM problem and may be a matter of time before the card finally goes out.
I know in some instances there are "Things" you can do to possibly help it along (Baking the card) but that's a tricky thing to do, even if you have experience doing it.
Chances are it's time to start looking for another GPU before the one you've got goes.

However you can do as others have suggested with different drivers used, know that even though a driver is newer it doesn't always mean it's better - Could be an older version/driver may solve the problems so you can try that if you want. At least it will give an indication of whether it's a driver or hardware issue you've got.

THIS.
I never use Furmark because it's a proven card killer.
Useful for a limited duration test (And I stress limited duration) for checking a card's cooling but that's about it.

He might not be on about the game, but how people have started to describe when a card has a particular fault.

Firefox as well.

I wasn't playing a game at the time, just on desktop. I was playing games earlier in the day though and none of those had issues.

Had a similar issue with a Sapphire 5850 back in the day.

Yeah It'll probably not manifest that quickly. I was on 466.27 for about a week before I got the artifacting the first time as described in the OP post.

Using unigine heaven right now. Card is topping out at 72c after 30 minutes so far. Zero issues. Did a benchmark run too just to ensure performance is good

Is the 72°C temp the GPU temp or the hot spot temp? The hot spot temp is usually much hotter.

Only 2000 series and newer have hotspot temp.

So what is the hot spot temp being reported on my 1080ti? The hot spot temp does vary as well with load so it's measuring something that's not the GPU (which has a different temp).

From other user reports, memory temp.

Here's a pic off all the available sensors GPU-Z has for my card:

It should be similar for most 1080 Tis, except those that have extra sensors (like some higher end EVGA models).

EDIT**

2 hours of heaven, zero crashes.

Well we'll know in a week if it was the drivers. Drivers are an easy fix, you just revert to an older version. A bad video card is not, 1080 Tis are selling for $900 right now which is absolutely insane.

No it's based off experience. Chances are if you have a Bad VRAM chip and you are constantly using that computer and don't get a single error in a week, it's not a bad VRAM chip.

If you don't have anything nice to say or contribute please don't bother posting.
